He was Abraham Gerritszen, jm from N. Yorck; Grietie Minnens, wid. of Harmen Douwwenszen, both living at Tappan.      Johannes Minne was from Frieslant, and living at Haverstroo when he married.⁴ He married Annatje Van Weert, daughter of Jochem Wouterz Van Wart and Christina Jans, on 4 June 1693 at Philipsburgh (Tarrytown), NY.^2,5,6 (Banns on 6 May 1693 at DRC, New York City. He was Johannes Minne, jm from Frieslant; she Anneken Jochems, jd from Midwouwt, the first living at Haverstroo, and the second at Fredrick Philipslant.)⁶ Johannes Minne died before 26 May 1696.⁷

     He died intestate. On 26 May 1696 letters of administration are granted to his wife Anna.⁷

     Lysbeth Minnes married Martin Schenck, son of Roelof Martense Schenck and Neeltie Garritse Van Kouwenhoven, on 1 April 1693 ((or 11 Apr.)^1,2) Lysbeth Minnes died before 1704 as her husband remarried.

     She is a sponsor at baptisms in 1692 (child of Albert) and 1701 (child of Grietje.)¹ Married name: Schenck.

     Pieter Minnes was born in 1657.¹

     He is a sponsor at baptisms of his brother Albert's children.²

     Rensje Minnes was baptized on 30 October 1692 at Brooklyn (DRC) (sponsors: Lukas Stevense and Lysbeth Minnes; father Albert Minnes, mother Mincke Jans.)^1,2 She married poss. Lodewyck Post.³

     Deborah Minor married Joseph Pendleton, son of James Pendleton and Hannah Goodenough, on 8 July 1696.¹ Deborah Minor died on 8 September 1697.¹

     Fern Evelyn Mitchell was born on 3 November 1894.¹ She married Leon Hallock Harding, son of Alva Harding and Jeannette Amelia Davis, on 15 January 1920.¹

     James P Mitchell was born circa 1800.¹ He married Mary Mooers, daughter of David Mooers and Hannah Langden, on 21 October 1824 at Northumberland County, Ontario, Canada.¹

     Jane Mitchell married Thomas Langdon Mooers, son of David Mooers and Hannah Langden, on 22 September 1818 at Ludlow, Northumberland County, Canada.¹

     Jennie Mitchell was born in 1875.¹ She married Jacob Andrew Vander Brink, son of Anne Jacobs van den Brink and Eelkje Hovenga, on 14 December 1892 at Paterson, Passaic County, NJ.¹ Jennie Mitchell died in 1933.¹

     John Mitchell was born at Ireland. He married Jane Mitchell. John Mitchell was buried in North Burial Ground in Providence.

     John Lewis Mitchell was baptized on 18 August 1797 at Gagetown, Queens County, New Brunswick, Canada, (Anglican Church.)¹ He married Giles Harris.¹ John Lewis Mitchell died after 1850 at Sebec, ME.¹

     John Lewis and Susannah were baptized on the same day.¹

     Lewis Mitchell was born circa 1737/38.¹ He married Sarah Crabtree, daughter of John Crabtree, at Gagetown, Queens County, Canada.¹ Lewis Mitchell died on 7 March 1830 at Ludlow, Northumberland County, New Brunswick, Canada.¹

     Appendix IV 'Over the Portage' lists Lewis Mitchell Sgt with the 35th Regiment of Foot; early settler of Grimross, to Mirimichi in 1800, lots 31 and 32, North side and Island 8. Commissioner of Roads 1800; town clerk, 1800; Clerk of Market, 1805; Assessor, 1806; Overseer of Poor, 1811; married Sarah Crabtree, daughter of John Crabtree of Ireland and Grimross; Children: Nancy, 1774; William, 1779; mary, 1780; Sarah, 1784; John, 1789; Rebecca, 1793; Phebe, 1796; James P., 1800; Jane and Thomas. He died 1831; Sarah Crabtree Mitchell died 1856.
     Chapter 2, The Founders (Over the Portage) states that daughters Sarah and Phebe married brothers Andrew and John Green (pg 25), daughter Mary married Thomas Small (pg 26). Page 27, states that Lewis Mitchell had come to Grimross in Queen's County in 1761 (ref PANB, MNO 15/1/2 Widows Pension Sarah Mitchell 1849 (Grimross is near the present area of Gagetown) Regarding from whence they had come, Lewis Mitchell and sons from Gagetown (PANB RG 10, rs 108) Lewis Mitchell, 1799 (pg 29). Eight claimed to be farmers - Lewis Mitchell among them (p 31).
     Page 33 'Lewis Mitchell's history of settlement is long and ardous. Occupying a lot at Grimross the first ten years following his arrival he lost official possesson when the surveyor decided to grant it to himself. Promised the adjacent lot, he soon discovered it encroached on his neighbor. As beneficiary to an estate, he inherited 400 acres 'where two French men now live and by Mr. Israel Perley and Benjamin Atherton's intrigues and ill conduct have persuaded the French men that the land was none of my property and that I cannot do anything about the land without going to the law is disagreeable. (PANB RG 10, RS 108 1785) In September of 1785 he was granted a lot on Grimross Neck but soon found that he was unable to raise bread for his family by reason of the early and late frost in the spring and fall and likewise frequent fogs (1789) and as he had a numerous family of children and was reduced very low in the world, could not possibly remove at any distance. A petition in 1789 for land in the rear of the Gagetown Plat proved unsuccessful and Mitchell apparantly remained at Grimross for another 10 years at which time he asked for land in the new settlement at Mirimichi (1799)(pg 33).
     A total of 160 transaction were recorded by the Registrar of Northumberland County involving the 1809 group and their offspring to 1850. Eight families were involved in transactions from one generation to the next - Mitchell being one of them. William Mitchell provided for his two eldest sons by selling to them additonal lots which he had purchased after the 1809 grant; in 1825 lower and upper halves of lot 25 were sold to son James. He appeared to be concerned over his single daughters - spinster Jane Mitchell, and widowed Nancy Munro.
     Queens County Records Gagetown Anglican Church 18 Aug 1797 lists baptisms of Lewis and Sarah Mitchell's children Susannah, John Lewis and 'Pheby'. Sarah Mitchell is shown in the 1851 Census of Blissfield as living with John Green and Phebe, children Daniel and Margaret. Sarah Mitchell was an infirm pensioner, age 92 from Nova Scotia. A copy of Sarah Mitchell's Pension was found in the records 11 Jan 1842 in which she received 10 pounds 'Sarah Mitchell, widow of Lewis Mitchell, an old soldier'. Note the certificate of mrs. Mitchell's allowance for 1862 did not pass the Sessions that year in consequence of the necessary voucher having .... which being now supplied to widows to be certified.
     An obituary found in the New Brunswick Courier 17 Apr 1830, 'On the 7th of March last, at Ludlow, Mirimichi, Mr. Lewis Mitchell, aged 92 years. Mr. M came to this country at an early period of its settlement, and was sometimes Asst Barrack Master of this garrison.

Mooers); Jane Naomi b 1801 (m Thomas Mooers),& Thomas. Left out Phebe (m John Green).¹

     Mary Mitchell was born at Gagetown (was Grimross), New Brunswick, Canada.¹ She married Thomas Small, son of Johannes Wilhemus Schmall.¹

     Nancy Mitchell was born in 1774.¹ She married John Munro.¹

     Phoebe Mitchell was born circa 1796.¹ She was baptized on 18 August 1797 at Gagetown, Queens County, New Brunswick, Canada, (Anglican Church.)¹ She married John Green, son of Henry Green and Margaret Green.¹

     Rebecca Mitchell was born on 7 December 1793.¹ She was baptized on 18 August 1797 at Gagetown, Queens County, New Brunswick, Canada, (Anglican Church.)¹ She married Nathanial Mooers, son of David Mooers and Hannah Langden.¹ Rebecca Mitchell died in December 1881.¹ She was buried in Milo Cemetery.¹

     Robert Henry Mitchell was born in 1859. He married Robina Buchanan Allan, daughter of John Buchanan Allan and Annie Findlay McAlister, on 15 June 1909 at Central Falls, Providence County, RI. Robert Henry Mitchell died on 28 January 1926 at Central Falls, RI. He was buried in Moshassuck Cemetery in Central Falls.
