Alexander DeWitt Wales graduated from City College of New York, New York City.2 He was a brilliant lawyer but tended to defend the underdog. He fought the railroads which were the source of a heavy tax in those days. He was a candidate for Congress a number of times, running on the Dencratis ticket in a solid Republican district.
