Kirwan was born on 14 June 1914 at Baltimore, MD, (an unnamed source had date as 1912; SSDI has 13 Jun 1914.)^1,2 He married Catherine Bowman (1912-1993.)³ He died on 21 April 1994 at Chestertown, Kent County, MD, (obituary in the Baltimore Sun on 4 Jul 1994 has his death place as Edinburgh, Scotland.)^2,4 He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery.³

     On 15 Aug 1938 Kenneth Kirwan Jr. arrived in New York on the "Santa Elena" from Cartagena, Colombia. He was a US citizen, and his home address was 209 Chancery Rd, Baltimore. He had left Colombia of 7 Aug 1938. The ship had left New York on 29 Jul 1938, and apparently made a circle.
     A Kenneth Kirwan, b. Maryland, returned from London with British Overseas Airways on 10 Mar 1951. He is now living at 450 Wastena Terrace, Ridgewood, NJ. He is a US Citizen.

     Maud Henrietta Kitson was born on 26 March 1875.¹ She (1) married George M Van Riper, son of Adrian D Van Riper and Sarah Van Pelt, on 4 August 1894.¹ Maud Henrietta Kitson (2) married Andrew Brunton.² Maud Henrietta Kitson died on 5 August 1941 at 439 Innes, Woodridge, NJ.¹

     The 1920 census lists Andrew Brunton and Maude at Jersey City, Hudson County, NJ, with his stepson Raymond VanRiper, his children Robert (18, b. NY), Millicent (14, b. NJ), and Frank (11, b. NJ). They are enumerated with the surname Van Riper, but not indicated as being stepchildren. His mother-in-law Mary Kitson (63, wid., b. NY) and friend Emma Post (60, S, b. NJ) are also in the household.² The 1940 census lists Maude Brunton at Wood-Ridge, Bergen County, NJ, with her son Raymond VanRiper and his wife Maezie, and his three sons: Raymond, Andrew and George. She was listed as being widowed twice.³ Married name: Van Riper. Married name: Maude Brunton.³

     Theunis Jacobse Klaarwater was born in 1624 at Baarn, The Netherlands.¹ He married Maria Hansen, daughter of Hans Vos and Geertje Seltens.¹ He died between 1715 and 1717 at New Paltz, NY.¹ He was buried in 1715 in Bontecoe, in the orchard of his farm.

     He was 20 when he signed the contract, and he was from Hamersvelt (near Leusden.)² Theunis Jacobse immigrated on 5 September 1656 to New Amsterdam on the "Otter." He had signed a contract with Jeremias Van Renselaer on 14 Jun 1656 in Amsterdam to sail on the "Otter."² Theunis Jacobse Klaarwater lived in 1709 at Shawangunk, NY.
     Theunis was a graduate of Univ. of Leyden. He was a soldier in Holland. He was exiled from Holland by Phillip 2nd of Spain for religious reasons. He immigrated to New Amsterdam, later moved to Kingston then to Bontecoe. With others, he was awarded a 4000 acre patent in 1709 by Queen Anne in Ulster Co. He was a Huguenot and one of the founders of the Ref. D. Ch. in Kingston. Later he attended the church at New Paltz.
Other sources have him coming to New Netherland about 1656 on the 'Otter' with Van Renselaer. If that is so, his son Jacob cannot have been born in The Netherlands (as the Deyo File suggests). While this website has a lot of transcriptions, it has Theunis as a son of Anthony Jacobs and Besseltgen Wouters. As Theunis' patronymic is Jacobs, and he does not name any children either Anthony or Besseltgen, this seems unlikely.^3,1,4
     The Klarwaters were one of the most ancient families of Holland. For centuries they owned and still (1909) own estates at Baarn, near Rotterdam. Its members were among the founders of the Dutch Republic and achieved distinction in the wars of Holland. The Klaarwaters fought under William the Silent and John of Barneveldt.
Theunis Jacobsen Clearwater, the founder of the Clearwater family in America was born at Baarn.⁵
     NOTE: Hasbrouck File had ? Klaarwater, the mother of Agatha Nicol, as a daughter of Theunis Jacobse Klaarwater. Theunis' son Jacob is b. c. 1663, and Elsje prob. c. 1675-80; Agatha is prob. b. 1650-1655, which would give a birthdate for her mother of 1630-35, enough to be a sister of Theunis.^6,4 Name variation: Theunis Clearwater.      Josephina Johanna Cornelia Klaasing immigrated in 1914 to Ashley Heights, Paterson, Passaic County, NJ, on the Nieuw Amsterdam, from Rotterdam, arriving in New York on 31 Oct 1914 with four children: Wilhelmus (11), Marie (9), Anna (5) and Roelof (11 mo), all born in Bussum. She was going to her husband Roelof Hoebee in Ashley Heights, Paterson, NJ. Her contact in Holland is her father Willem Klaassing in Amersfoort. Last residence was Bussum.^2,3 The 1920 census lists Ralph Hoebee and Josephine at Orchard Street (#24) at Franklin Township, Bergen County, NJ, with seven children: William (17), Mary (16), Anne (10), Ralph (5), all born in Holland, Katherine (4y 9 mo), Cornelia (10 mo), and Josephine (2 + 3 mo.)² Her parents were Willem Rudolf Klaasing and Maria Adriana Cornelia van Opstal.¹ Married name: Josephine Hoebee.²

     Hendrik Klaassen was from Leermens, Groningen, The Netherlands, acc. to his marriage certificate.^2,3 He married Sypke Lammerts on 20 November 1774 at Oosternieland, Groningen, The Netherlands.^2,1 (Banns on 29 October 1774 at Usquert, Groningen, The Netherlands.)³ Hendrik Klaassen died before 1822.¹

     There are 3 records for her birth at FamilySearch: 2 say Paterson, one Manchester Twp; 2 say 1869, one 1868. However on 18 Mar 1914 Anna married in Alkmaar, and her mother Petronella Visser, widow of Jan Klaver, Meindrina Klaver, wife of Pieter Kerssing, and Anna herself, declare that she was born on 1 Feb 1868 in Paterson, NJ.^6,5,4,2 Name variation: Anna Clover.³ Married name: Krug.

     Jan Klaver was born in 1837 at Schoorl, Noord Holland, The Netherlands.^2,3 He married Petronella Visser.¹ Jan Klaver died on 24 November 1907 at Alkmaar, The Netherlands.⁴

     Jan and Petronella must have gone back to Holland before 1880; a daughter Margaretha, b. 1880 in Warmenhuizen married in Alkmaar in 1906.⁸ His parents were Simon Klaver and Antje Kluit.⁴ Name variation: John Clover.⁷
