NOTE: BC-Families Brinkerhoff file and the Brinkerhoff book have Joris Abrahams as married to Annetje Teunisse Bogert, daughter of Teunis G. Bogert (many children); but BC-Families Bogert (H-Z) File has Annetje married to Jorisz Janszen Brinkerhoff (but with the same dates, no children listed). The Brinkerhoff file also has a Joris Abrahams married to Annetje Coevers (with a son Hendrik b. 1709, m. Lammertje Rapalye, but Joris and Annetje Teunisse also have a son Hendrik (also b. 1709, m. Klaasje Kornelis). The Riker File assigns the children to Annetje Coevers, but does not name them (aside from Isaac, being the fifth child). It seems that this all should be the same person. It is possible that the name Annetje Coevers was only used in relation to Hendrick, and that Hendrick was married twice, but this is all speculation, and needs more study.6

He came to New Amsterdam c. 1638, acc. to Riker, BC-Families Brinckerhoff File, and others. However, a Joris Dirxsz and Susanna Dubbels have at least two children baptized in Amsterdam after that date.4,5,8
He first went to Staten Island, but later settled in Brooklyn. Joris was given a grant of land by brief on 23 Mar 1646. He is the ancestor of the entire American family.4 Joris Dirckszen Brinkerhof was the first elder of the church in Brooklyn. In 1660 Joris and Susanna are listed in the NYDC memberlist of Brooklyn at Brooklyn.4,5,9 He and Susannah had three more children bp. in Amsterdam (but no baptisms found for Abraham.) Hartman was a descendant of Joris Dircksen Brinckerhoff (Joris Dirckszen Brinkerhof), the first American ancestor of the Brinckerhoff family, born in the Netherlands about 1609, died in Brooklyn, January 16, 1661. He arrived in New Amsterdam (now New York) in 1638, coming from the county of Drent or Drenthe in the United Provinces, and having lived some time in Flushing, a seaport in Zeeland, before his departure. After spending a short time in New Amsterdam, then a small community of a few hundred souls, he settled in Brooklyn, where he obtained a grant of land by brief dated March 23, 1646. He was a man of worth, and was an elder of the Brooklyn Church at the time of his death, the first edifice of which he was greatly instrumental in planning and erecting. He married, in Holland, Susannah Dubbels, whom he brought with him to America, and who survived him many years. His children were: I. Derick, who was slain by the Indians and left no issue. 2. Hendrick, who settled on the eastern bank of the Hackensack river in New Jersey, where he bought a tract of land, June 17, 1685, not long surviving the purchase; married Claesie Boom- gaert and left sons, Cornelius, Derick and Jacobus, whose descendants, now considerably scattered, write their name Brinkerhoff; of the three sons above named, Cornelius, the eldest, settled at Communipaw, and died in 1770, leaving sons, Hendrick and Hartman, who were the ancestors of the Brinkerhoff family of Bergen; Derick and Jacobus bought the paternal estate; the former had descendants at Hackensack and Schraalenburgh. 3. Abraham, mentioned below. 4. Aeltie, married William Van Couwenhoven.

The Brinckerhof boek mentions a Derick Brinckerhoff, who married Johanna Harmsen in 1631 in Varden (?Vorden), and states this is some one else.4,11 Name variation: Joris Dircks.12,13
