Mary Granger
F, b. 14 February 1808, d. 1866
Father | John Granger1 b. 18 Nov 1787, d. 1865 |
Mother | Elizabeth Cobb1 b. 17 Jul 1785, d. Jun 1820 |
Mary Granger was born on 14 February 1808 at Occold Parish, Suffolk, England.2 She died in 1866 at Diss, Norfolk, England.3 She was buried on 13 December 1866 in Diss.4
Mary was born out of wedlock to John and Elizabeth Cobb. We hold a bastardy record from Occold Parish in Suffolk dated 1808, for John Granger to pay support for the maintenance of a female child born to Elizabeth Cobb. Occold lies about 12 miles south of Shelfanger. This John Granger is the son of William Granger and Mary Holmes; Early's older brother. Shelfanger All Saints parish records show that John married Elizabeth in 1811. Three more children were later born to them, John, Early, and Emily. Baptism records only exist for Emily at Shelfanger Particular Baptist. Elizabeth died in 1820.
There is no record of this child coming to America with John and his family in 1830. There are, however, census records of a Mary Granger, born 1808, living in Diss. She shows up in the 1841, 1851, and 1861 censuses, never married, claiming to be born in Shelfanger. She died in 1866. Everett Granger holds copy of death certificate.
Banns were posted for the marriage of John Granger (wid) to Lois Barker (wid) 19 May, 26 May, 2 June 1822, but apparently there was no marriage in 1822 since banns were again posted 9 Dec, 16 Dec, and 23 Dec with marriage being recorded 27 Dec 1827.5,2,6

Newspaper clipping record of March 28, 1925 provides details of the Golden Wedding Anniversary held at 49 North Maple Avenue:
On March 28, 1925 Theodore and Carrie Granger celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a surprise party held in their son's home on Maple Avenue, Park Ridge. The Grangers thought they had been invited for dinner and parchesi, and brought along their parchesi board. The house was decorated with gold and white decorations, including a yellow arch with colored lights and a centerpiece with yellow tulips. Mayor H.J. Werner of Hillsdale attended and wished the couple many happy returns. Dancing followed, and needless to say, some old time dances were nimbly stepped by the 'Old Timers" much to the amusement of the 'young foxtrotters'. The couple received many presents including blooming potted plants. Those in attendance were: Mr. & Mrs. A. J. Cooper, Elsie Cooper, Clarence Blauvelt, Anna Ritter and Carrie Ritter (Bogota), Mayor and Mrs. Werner, Mr. & Mrs. S. Streich, G.W. Saul, Mr. & Mrs. C.V. Shuttleworth (Hillsdale), Mr. & Mrs. Milton Packer (Saddle River), Mrs. J. Burdef (Pearl River), Grant Pritchard (Westwood), Mr. & Mrs. A.E. Bush, Mr. & Mrs. W.T. Mead, Mr. & Mrs. J.T. Mulhall, Edmund Mulhall, Florence Amos, Mrs. L.S. Burdick, Mr.& Mrs. George Granger, Jr., Mr. & Mrs. Ellsworth Turse, Mr. & Mrs. George Granger, Sr.
