Peter G Demarest was born on 12 October 1800.^1,2 He was baptized on 16 November 1800 at Bergen County, NJ, (Paramus DRC) (no sp. listed; father Guileaam Demarest, mother Maatje.)^1,3,2 He married Angenietje Eckerson, daughter of Jan Eckerson and Geertje Holdrum, on 23 December 1820 at Sussex County, NJ.^4,5 Peter G Demarest died on 11 March 1866 aged 66.⁴ He was buried in Lafayette Cemetery in Lafayette.^4,6

The 1850 census lists Peter G Demarest and Agnes at Lafayette Twp, Sussex County, NJ, with John (23, laborer), Guilion (20), Hannah (17), Emeline (10), and Mary E (5); and Thompson Stephens (24, laborer). Peter is 49, farmer; Agnes is 48, all are b. NJ. They are next door to Gilliam Demarest.⁵ The 1855 census lists Peter G Demarest and Agnes at Lafayette Twp, NJ, with Gylliam Demarest (24), Hannah Demarest (22), Emaline Demarest (15), and Mary E Demarest (10); and Robert J Scanlon (12.)⁷ The 1860 census lists Peter G Demarest and Agnes at Lafayette Twp, NJ, with Gillaum Demarest (30), Emma Demarest (20), and Mary E Demarest (15); Martha Demarest (77), Joseph Allen (29, farm laborer), and James Ackerson (38, day laborer). Peter is 59, farmer, Agnes is 59, all are b. NJ.⁸
