     There is reference in the Archives of Hoorn that a Pieter Janszen Haring (1610, Hoone, North Holland - ?) sold a house in Hoorn in 1632. Pieter Jansz & Maritje Pieters were listed parents at the 7 Dec 1633 baptism of Jan Pieterszen, residing at Grote Havensteeg, Hoorn, North Holland. Sometime between 1634 and 1667, Pieter Janszen seems to have sailed with his family to America.4
     The baptisms of the son Jan Pieters is actually on 18 Dec 1633 (Hoorn Arch.#1702-17, Inv.#5, Fol.#48a. NH Baptisms. child: Jan, father Pieter Jansz, mother: Marij Pieters, witn. Pietje Claes.) A Pieter Jansz and Marij Pieters marry 13 Apr 1625 (banns 30 Mar 1625, Easter Monday) (Hoorn Arch.#1702-17, Inv.#62, Fol.#112a. NH Marriages. Pieter Jansz ym and Marijtjen Pieters yd, both from Hoorn). These data are available at the West-Friese Archives, online at (Dutch only, with scans.) There seem to be no other baptisms for this couple. No one with last name Haring in that time.
     It is unclear, where the marriage with Gretie comes from. There is no marriage of a Pieter Jansz and Grietje/Greetje in Hoorn from 1625-1640. A Pieter Jans married a Grietje Sijmons in 1629, but he is not a widower (they have a child Jan baptized 24 Feb 1633, Trijn in 1634 and 1636, Grietje in 1637). A Pieter Jansz married a Grietje Jansz in 1627, he is a widower (and so is she), but then Jan Pieters would have been her child, not Maria's and they seem to have no children baptized. A Pieter Jansz married a Griet Tomas in 1627, he is a widower, (she is not), but they are not from Hoorn, and leave the town after the marriage. Name variation: Pieter Jansz.
