They are next door to Jacob Dater.3 The 1860 census lists John Y Dater and Lavinia at Ho-Ho-Kus Township, Bergen County, NJ, with William Dater (17), (on the next page, but same house and family) George Ryerson and Mary Ryerson (23 and 21, both b. NJ); and Mary Doremus (widow, 59) and a number of others with no obvious relationship are enumerated at the same address.4 John Young Dater was a merchant.4
     He was a New Jersey Assemblyman and State Senator, and was largely responsible for the development of Ramsey's Station on the Erie Railroad as a thriving village.1
