The 1850 census lists John Y Dater and Lavinia, with Mary (12, b. NJ) and William (7, b. NJ) Dater; Hannah Swin (17, b. NJ), and Peter O'Blenis (19, b. NJ, laborer). John is 33, b. NJ, farmer; Lavinia is 32, b. NJ. They are next door to Jacob Dater.3 The 1860 census lists John Y Dater and Lavinia at Ho-Ho-Kus Township, Bergen County, NJ, with William Dater (17), (on the next page, but same house and family) George Ryerson and Mary Ryerson (23 and 21, both b. NJ); and Mary Doremus (widow, 59) and a number of others with no obvious relationship are enumerated at the same address.4 John Young Dater was a merchant.4
He was a New Jersey Assemblyman and State Senator, and was largely responsible for the development of Ramsey's Station on the Erie Railroad as a thriving village.1

Helena Davids was born in September 1760.1 She married Nicholas Storm, son of Nicholas Storm and Engeltie Storm, on 19 December 1778 at Bedford, Long Island, NY.1 Helena Davids died on 23 January 1844.1 She was buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Tarrytown.1
