On a trip to Rutgers U. I found the City Directories from Jersey City 1861 - 1881. In 1870, I found a Lewis Kruger at 8 Hoboken Avenue, work 4 Hoboken Ave. In 1871-2, Lewis Kreuger (Lewis Kreuger and CO), and a Frederick Kreuger, both at Newark Ave and 5 Corners. 1872-3 a Frederick Kreuger, burcher, and Lewis Kreuger both at Hoboken Ave and Summit. In 1873-4 Lewis Kruger was at Summit Ave and Beacon, a grocer. There was no Louis Kruger in 1874-5. However, there was a Frederick Kruger at Summit Ave and 5 Corners.
The Federal Census of 1870 listed Louis Krucker age 22, Prussian, Value $2000. At the same home was a Frederick Krucker, age 21, Prussian. The 1880 Federal Census listed Lewis Kruger age 32 in Union Twp, Bergen Co, NJ. He was in the gtocery business. Married to Harriet, age 26, keeping house. Children were Cornelia 4 and Frederick 3. Birthplace of Louis Kruger was listed as New York. The 1880 Federal Census listed Frederick Kruger as age 31, a shipping clerk, in Hoboken (Jersey City) He was born in New York, his parents listed as being born in Berlin.      There was no index to the 1910 Fed Census, so I chose notto search for Frederick Kruger. However, he was not in the Index for the 1920 Fed Census. A Lauretta Kruger was listed in Bayonne, Hudson County, age 38, living with William Pigott. She was listed as a sister-in law.
When I was reading the list of people who gave gifts to Cornelia Kruger when she married Milton Kirkpatrick, a Mrs. Kruger and a Lauretta Kruger were listed from Jersey City - in 1896.1
