He may have married (2) Mary Thorn, and (3) Phoebe Wright. He (72) prob. is in the 1850 census in Thompson, Sullivan Cty, NY with a Mary Mapes (56). A Daniel Mapes (38) and Phebe Mapes (28) are in the sme household. He is still there in 1860, next door to Daniel and Phebe Conkling (who are called Conkling Mapes (with Conkling crossed out) in 1855). From the census it would seem that he might have married twice, but that Phebe is son Daniel's wife.^9,10,7,11

Henry Mapes was born on 2 April 1738 at Tappan, Rockland County, NY.¹ He was baptized on 30 April 1738 at Tappan, NY, (DRC.) He married Ruth Rumsey, daughter of Simon Rumsey II and Phoebe Rose, in September 1756.^2,1 Henry Mapes died in 1783.²

Henry served as private in Capt. Thomas McKinstry's company, Col. William Malcolm's regiment. There are six Henry's listed in 'New York in the Revolution', 2nd ed., by James A Roberts, 1898, who served in various units. Some or all of them may have been for this Henry who served different enlistments.² NOTE: Since the DAR Lineage book indicates that this Henry died in 1783, the transcript of the will of a Henry Mapes that is dated 20 Oct 1812 and was probated 4 Mar 1823, was most likely not this Henry. That Henry was married to Anna and the father of Amy Mapes who married John Daley. Ham's book indicates that Amy's father was a different Henry Mapes (RIN 2447). See for the extract of the will. He (1) married Mary Corwin circa 1685 at Long Island, NY.³ Jabez Mapes (2) married Hannah Youngs, daughter of Gideon Youngs and Sarah (?), on 25 May 1717 at Southold, Suffolk County, NY.^4,5,6 Jabez Mapes died on 26 January 1732/33 at Southold, NY.^1,7,8 He was buried on 30 January 1733 in Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Mattituck.⁹
