Gerrit Brink1,2

M, b. 18 December 1889, d. 16 December 1961
Gerrit Brink was born on 18 December 1889 at The Netherlands.1,3 He married Romke Nieuwland.1 Gerrit Brink died on 16 December 1961 at Placer, CA.1,4

Family

Romke Nieuwland b. 29 Jul 1883
Gerrit Brink immigrated on 13 May 1913 to SS Rijndam, Ellis Island, New York, NY, on the SS Rijndam. He left Rotterdam on 3 May 1913, and arrived in Ellis Island, New York on 13 May 1913. He was going to a friend G. Bonnema in Garfield. His town of residence is listed as Deventer. Gerrit's father is L. Brink of Deventer.1,5 He was in 1915 a millhand, and in 1930 a self-employed contractor.3,6 The 1930 census lists Gerrit Brink and Romkje at Crescent Ave #24 at Wyckoff, Bergen County, NJ, with a cousin Garrit L. Brink, 25 yrs old, single. Gerrit Brink was 26 at age of 1st marriage, Romkje Brink was 29 (which makes no sense.)6
A Gerrit Brink was born on 05 Dec 1889 in Coevorden, son of Johannes Brink en Johanna Moeke. This fits nicely with the reported date of birth in the 1915 census, but on the passengerlist his father's initial is L., and he is from Deventer. A Gerrit Brink dies in Placer, CA on 16 Dec 1961, he is born 18 Dec 1890, which is close, but not the same.2,5,7
Census of 1920 has a Gerrit Brink (29 yrs old) with wife Lottie (31 yrs old) both emigrated in 1913, both aliens. He is a farmer. As Romkje was naturalized before 1915, this is prob. not her. Was he married before her?
His 2nd (or 3rd?) wife is Mabel Mary (May) BRINK, F, b. 08/27/1890 New Jersey, mother's maidenname: Farrell, father's last name: Eicher, d. Sacramento 10/28/1980, age 90 yrs.1,4 Name variation: Gerrit Jan Brink.1 Name variation: Garrett J. Brink.3
