He was a farmer living on his ancestral farm at Hillsdale, Bergen County, NJ.3 The 1880 census lists Thomas T Banta and Ellen, with their sons John Wilber and Aaron, and his mother-in-law Ann (Hannah) Ackerman (age 80). Aaron's age is listed as 27.4 The 1895 census lists Thomas T Banta and Ellen at Borough of Woodcliff at Washington Twp, Bergen County, NJ. Name variation: Thomas Samuel Banta.5
