     Hendrick Hopper was born circa 16 November 1779.³ He was baptized on 12 December 1779 at Bergen County, NJ, (Paramus DRC.)^4,5,3 He married Annatje Van Buskirk, daughter of Thomas A Van Buskirk and Maria Terhune, on 28 July 1797.^1,4,2,6 Hendrick Hopper died on 17 September 1823 aged 43.10.1.^6,3 He was buried in DRC Cemetery in Upper Saddle River.⁷

     Hendrick Hoppen was born in 1655 at New Amsterdam. He was baptized on 9 January 1656 at New York City (DRC) (sp. Cornelis Aertszen and Belitje Hendricks; father Andries Hop, mother Geertie Hendricks.)^3,4,1,5,6 He married Marritje Janse Van Blarcom, daughter of Jan Lubbertsen and Magdaleentje Theunis, at Bergen, NJ, (DRC.)^7,8 (Banns on 14 March 1680. Married by the preacher at Bergen.)^9,1,10,5 Hendrick Hoppen died after 26 September 1737 at Hackensack, Bergen County, NJ.^4,11

     In 1694 Hendrick joined the DRC in Hackensack; he also purchased 300 acres in Pollifly, which remained in the family until the 20th century.^1,12,10 Hendrick Hoppen made a will on 26 September 1737. It was not recorded. He was Hendrick Hoppe of New Barbadoes, Bergen County. Mentions eldest son Andries, dec'd; son John; daughters Trintie Van Allen, Leah Zabowisko, Geertie Zabowrisko; children of daughter Rachel, dec'd; youngest son Gerrit; grandson Hendrick, eldest son of my eldest son Andries.¹³
     Hendrick, son of Andries Willemszen Hoppe(n) and Geertje Hendricks, was b. in New Amsterdam, and bap. there on 9 Jan 1656 at the NY RDCh. He moved across the Hudson River to the settlement at Bergen (now Jersey City, NJ), with his mother, step-father, and family when he was about six. He lived there until after his marriage as his first child was b. in Bergen, and bap. there in Dec 1680. Soon after, they moved to the new settlement at Hackensack where their next seven children were born. On 22 Sep 1694, "Hendrick Hoppe" joined the Hack.RDCh.(p.2). The family lived in the south-west section of what is now Hackensack/Hasbrouck Heights, then know as "Polifly." By deed dated 17 [May?] 1694, "John Berry of Bergen Co" conveyed to "Hendrick Hoppen of Essex Co., NJ" for £40, "...a certain parcel of Land lying between the Hackensack River and the Saddle River now in the possession and occupation of him, the said Hendrick Hoppen, containing in Breadth nine chains and six Links, running that breadth through a great swamp on a west-north-west course until it comes to the fresh meadow lying on the northwest side of the said swamp and from thence on a north-west course unto Saddle River. Breadth aforesaid one hundred forty four chains twenty lynks (sic) containing one hundred ninety acres English measure more or less" ... Also and another tract adjoining of 100 acres and a third of 320 acres of meadow . By this same indenture Hendrick bound himself and his heirs to pay also "a yearly quit rent of twenty two shillings" and in testimony thereof he signed his mark (Brg.Co. Deed A-89). Some of the deed in the microfilmed copy at Brg. Co.Courthouse is no longer readable, but was abstracted earlier by Nelson (p.344). This deed was referred to in a later deed, da. 18 Mar 1726, Hendrick Hoppen of New Barbadoes, Brg.Co. NJ, sold to Garret Hoppen of same [his son], for £150, land which Hendrick Hoppen had purchased "from Maj. John Berry 17 May 1694," bounded by the land of Hendrick vander Linde, the Saddle River, the line of Abram Ackerman and the line of Hendrick Brass.(Hendrick Hoppe(n) signed with his mark)(Brg. Co. Deed B-19). This property was to be owned by his descendants for many generations. The will of "Hendrick Hoppe of Bergen County in New Barbadoes, Freck(lin) County of Bergen in the Eastern Division of the Province of (New Jersey) yeoman, being of good health".was da. 26 Sep 1737 and was unrecorded (see next page for entire will). He mentioned: children of my eldest son Andries Hopp deceased, unto John hopp, unto my doughter Trintie van allen, unto my doughter Leah Zabowisko, unto my doughter Geertie Zabowriji and unto the children of my doughter Rachel Deceased, Six children or their heirs to divided equally £150 lawful money of this province - that is each "five and twenty pounds" to be paid by Longest [youngest] son Gerrit Hopp (the money is the payment of my Plantation in the Pollvley he bought of me in full); To grandson Hendrick Hoppe, the eldest son of my eldist son Andries Hopp Deceased the Sum of three shillings ... as his Provagatiif [prerogative] of his fatherss Birth Right. .. .All the remaining of the estate to be divided equally among my seven children or their heirs. Unto mij two Doughters Leah and geertie Zabouriski - ... my doughter Leah one silver cup and unto my Doughter geertie I do give one fleson(?) [apparently hard to read in the original or unknown] kelder called in Duch, to be their own without arguement. Signed with his mark. With banns on 14 Mar 1680, at Brg.RDCh.(mar.#42), "Hendrick Hoppe, y.m. (from New York) and Maria Jans, y.d. Names granddaughter Annatje Hopper, daughter of son Andries Hopper, dec'd; son Abraham; daughter Marritje Hopper; daughter Altie; granddaughter Weyntie Hopper. Executors: son Abraham and nephew Andries John Hopper. Witn.: Abraham Terhuyn, Cornelius Van Boskirk, and William Cairns.⁹

     Hendrick H Hopper and Jacomyntje had one more son, Hendrik (b. 29 Dec 1804, bp 27 Jan 1805; no sponsors listed; Paramus p.59; also named in father's will.^4,5 Hendrick H Hopper made a will on 16 July 1805. It was proved 13 Jan 1806. He was Henry Hopper, of Franklin Twsp., Bergen Co; Names wife, Jacomeyntie; sons Andries H. and John H. (under 21) Hopper; daughters Catharine and Elizabeth; son Hendrick. Executors: sons Andries H. Hopper, John H. Hopper and nephew Garret P. Hopper. Witnesses: Jacob P. Vanderbeek, Henry P. Hopper, and Abraham Westervelt.⁵

     Hendrick J Hopper was born circa 30 March 1712 at Bergen County, NJ, (at Paramus.)² He was baptized on 30 March 1712 at Hackensack, NJ, (DRC.)^1,4 He married Catharina Van Houten, daughter of Pieter Van Houten and Claertje Post, on 3 April 1735 at Hackensack, NJ, (DRC.)^5,1,3,6 (Banns. banns in Acquackanonck.)^7,2

     Hendrick J Hopper and Catharina had one more son, Andries, b. 5 Jul 1755, bp. 20 Jul 1755; d. bef. 1786.^8,6 Name variation: Hendrik P Hopper.⁷

     Hendrick J Hopper (1) married Aaltje Terhune, daughter of Dirk A Terhune and Lea Hopper.^3,1,4 Hendrick J Hopper (2) married Hetty.⁴ He died before 18 August 1821.⁴

     Hendricktje Hopper was from Choghakes acc. to her marriage certificate.³ She was baptized on 26 January 1710 at Hackensack, NJ, (DRC.)^1,4 She married Abraham A Ackerman Jr., son of Abraham David Ackerman and Aeltje Van Laer, on 8 September 1727 at Hackensack, NJ, (DRC.)^1,5 Hendricktje Hopper died before 16 August 1760 acc. to her brother's will.⁶

     Hendricktje Hopper and Abraham had three more children, all bp. in Hackensack DRC:

     Hendrik Hopper was baptized on 17 February 1760 at Bergen County, NJ, (Paramus DRC.)¹ He died before April 1778 as he is not named in his father's will.²

     Hendrik Hopper was baptized on 16 May 1784 at Bergen County, NJ, (Paramus DRC.)² He married Elizabeth Ackerman, daughter of Abraham Ackerman and Christina Mead, in 1804.^3,1

     Hendrik Hopper was baptized on 4 June 1770 at Bergen County, NJ, (Paramus DRC.)² He married Charity Conklin on 8 February 1795.¹ He died on 23 May 1856 aged 86.0.5.¹ He was buried in Hopper Burying Ground in Waldwick.³

     Hendrik G Hopper was baptized on 29 March 1761 at Bergen County, NJ, (Paramus DRC.)^1,3 He married Rachel Zabriskie, daughter of Jacob Zabriskie and Aaltje Terhune.^1,4 Hendrik G Hopper died (Smeltzer has date as 1836, but he is listed as deceased in hs father's will.)^1,5

     Hendrik G Hopper and Rachel had three more children (Garret, Albert, and Altje), who are mentioned in Gerret Hopper's will.⁵

     Hendrik P Hopper was born in 1784.¹ He married Elizabeth Ackerman.^2,1 Hendrik P Hopper died in 1870.¹

     Henry Hopper was born on 26 August 1835 at New Jersey.^1,2 He married Eliza Van Buskirk, daughter of John J Van Buskirk and Rachel Perry.^1,3 Henry Hopper died on 17 May 1871.¹

     The 1870 census lists Henry Hopper and Eliza at Hackensack Township, Bergen County, NJ, with Emma Hopper (8, b. NJ), John Hopper (6, b. NJ), and Kate Hopper (11m, b. NJ). Henry is 35, b. NJ, farmer, Eliza is 35, b. NJ. They are in the same house and family as John J Van Buskirk and family. The household includes also two domestic servants.^2,4

     Henry A Hopper was born in 1838.² He married Lavinia Baldwin, daughter of David D Baldwin (dec'd) and Catherine.^1,2 Henry A Hopper died after 16 November 1887.¹

     Henry J Hopper was born in 1800 (87 at death.)² He married Catherine Courter.³ Henry J Hopper died on 28 March 1887 at Crystal Lake (Franklin Twp), NJ, (NJ Death Index has date as 27 Mar.)^1,2

     The 1860 census lists Henry J Hopper and Catherine at Franklin Township, Bergen County, NJ, with Adelia (15), Cortland (13), and William H (7, on the next page) Lake, all b NJ. Henry is 59, b. NJ, farmer; Catherine is 56, b. NJ.⁴ The 1870 census lists Henry J Hopper and Catherine at Franklin Township, NJ, with William H. Lake (18, b. NJ, farm laborer). Henry is 62, b. NJ, farmer; Catherine is 60, b. NJ, keeps house.⁵ The 1880 census lists Henry J Hopper and Catherine at Franklin Township, NJ. Henry is 79, b. NJ, farmer; Catherine is 75, b. NJ, keeps house. On the next page, same house, different family, is William H Lake.³
