     Moritz Goetschi was born on 26 September 1686 at Zurich, Switzerland.^4,5,2,6 He married Esther Werdtlin on 24 February 1710 at Switzerland.^2,5,7,8 Moritz Goetschi died on 30 May 1735 at Philadelphia, PA.^1,2,5,9 He was buried in Presbyterian Churchyard in Philadelphia.⁹

     Moritz came to Philadelphia on the "Mercury," which arrived there on 29 May 1735. He died the day after, leaving his wife Esther and 8 children: Hendryk, Barbara, Esther, Rodolph, Mauritz, Beatus and Magdelena and his son-in-law Conrad Wuertz. They had left Zurich on 4 Oct 1734. (The ages of most of the children in the passenger list are off by a few years). They qualified to take the oath of allegiance to PA on 29 May 1735. Last name listed as Götschy. On pg.114 Hendryk is 17, and Conrad Wuertz is 26; on p.115 Esther, the mother, is 44, Barbara 18, Esther 16, Anna 24, Rodolph 12, Mauritz 10, Beat 8, and Magdalena 6. It is unclear, who Anna (24) is.^10,11,12,9
     Little is known about Maurice Goetchius except that he was the father of John Hendrick Goetchius. His wife was Esther Werdtlin. The History of Hudson and Bergen County states the father's name was John Henry - however, I feel this was a confused error. It states he was born in the Canton of Zurich, Switzerland in 1695 and came to America about 1728 and preached in the valleys of the Susquehanna and Delaware in PA, and at Skippah.
     The Zabriske geneology states he came to America leading a group of about 400 emigrants from Switzerland and had been delegated supervision of the reformed churches in PA. However, he died upon arrival in PA, and his son John Henry became the boy-wonder.
     Goetchius Family in America, Sinclair NJ C8 71.G5953 1984 - The Rev. Maurice Goetchius was a minister in the canton of Zurich. He was born in 1685, was a minister in 1710. He died the day he landed in Philadelphia. His sons were John Hendricus Goetchius and John Mauritious Goetchius. Moritz Goetschy was born in Zurich 26 Sep 1686. His parents were Rudolph Goetschy and Magdelana Kolloger. He was married in 1710. Children are listed on the family sheet. Moritz was an outstanding scholar. He remained in Salez until age 45 when he was surrounded by scandal. Barbel Rudisuhi, a maid servant, had an illegitimate son Johannes born 21 Jan 1731 - Pfarren Goetschy was named the father. Barbel was expelled, died in Marpach 10 Mar 1731. The child also died. The pastoral list reads "Moritz Goetschy remotus propter adulterium cum ancilla die 3 Feb 1731." (Moritz Goetschy is removed because of adultery with the maid, 3 Feb 1731)
     He went to Zurich, taught in Latin School. Son Johannes a student there. Son of pastor urged immigration. They left Oct 1734 from Limmotquai for America. Went to Isle of Wight - 12 weeks on ship. Father died the day they landed in Philadelphia.      Abraham Goetschius was born on 4 May 1845 at Upper Saddle River, Bergen County, NJ.¹ He was baptized on 26 June 1845 at Saddle River, Bergen County, NJ.¹ He married Jennie Brown.¹ Abraham Goetschius died between 1920 and 1929.¹

     Alice Goetchius was born on 24 January 1860 at New Jersey (1900 census has Nov 1860.)^2,1 She married John Jacob Bush, son of Daniel C Bush and Maria Hopper, on 14 July 1880.³ Alice Goetchius died on 22 January 1916.² She was buried on 23 January 1916 in Airmont Lutheran Cemetery in Suffern.²

     The 1900 census lists John Jacob Bush and Alice at ED 22 at Ho-Ho-Kus Township, Bergen County, NJ, with two children: John E. (b. Nov 1883, NJ) and Anna (b. Nov 1887, NJ). Daniel C Bush (b. Jul 1816, NJ, wid.) is listed as a boarder.¹ Married name: Bush.

     Ann Eliza Goetschius was born in 1799 at Marbletown, NY.³ She married John Hopper, son of Jacob J Hopper and Fytje Westervelt, on 27 July 1822 at Upper Saddle River, NJ, (DRC.)^1,4 Ann Eliza Goetschius died on 27 December 1882 aged 83.10.27.⁵ She was buried in New York Cemetery in Hackensack.^5,6

     John and Ann Eliza must have been divorced: in 1860 Ann Eliza is living with her son Stephen, but John is not; in 1870 Ann Eliza (70, b. NJ) is living in NYC with C.W. (38, b. NY) and Ellen (28, b. NJ) Dencher; in 1880 John is living with Stephen, but Ann Eliza is not.
     Konight has a notation: "wrong John?"^3,8,9
     Ann Eliza Goetschius is probably the daughter of Stephen Goetschius, considering that she names a son Steven Goetschius (after her father), and a daughter Elizabeth Salome (after a sister), but the Marbletown records should be checked. I have however connected them.^2,10 Married name: Anna E Hopper.³

     Anna Goetchius was baptized on 12 August 1716 at Berneck, Canton Thurgau (now St. Gallen), Switzerland, (Ev. Luth.)^2,1 She married John Conrad Wurtz on 1 November 1734 at Neuwied, Germany, (Sanders and Konight had 1 Nov 1735, but they were in PA already.)^3,4,5
