The Indian raid followed the killing of an Indian maiden for stealing fruit from an orchard.1

     Lubbert came to New Netherland on the ship 'Hope' in 1662 with his wife and four children ages 9, 13, 17 and an infant. The ship arrived in New Amsterdam on 29 Jun 1662. Also on board was his brother Willem and his family. Note that the 13 y. old could be Cornelis, but then Jan (who could be the one who was buried in Bergen on 23 Aug 1674 as "Jan Lubberts, son of Lubbert Lubberts of Hackensack") would not be on the ship.4,6,7,8
     He lived c. 1663 in Flatbush (BC-Families); and in 1676 in the Hackensack Valley (DeWitt). Lubbert and Geesje were members of the DRC Church in Hackensack in 1686 (BC-Families.)7,6
     The earliest settler bearing the name of Westervelt in America were Lubbert Lubbertson and William Van Westervelt who came from the town of Meppel, Drenthe, Holland. They settled in Long Island.
     The earliest mention of the name Westervelt in Holland is that of Dirck Westervelt who was born 1475-1500 and married into the Van Wenkson family and from them sprung a large family.6      NOTE: Poppe and BC-Families have Jan Lubberts (Westervelt) b. c. 1656 in Meppel (son of Lubbert Lubbertsen Westervelt), m. Magdaleentje Van Blarcom. This seems to me a mix-up with Jan Lubbertsen Van Blarcom, who married Magdaleentje Theunis in 1659 (NYDC). His witness was his brother-in-law Bloemert Sanders, hers her cousin Annetje Heijndricks.)3 Tryntie Lubberts died after 4 July 1657 at New Amsterdam (probably.)1

     Hendrick came to New Amsterdam before 1643, with his wife, and five children.2 She and Hendrick had maybe another daughter Annatje, who is a sponsor at some of the baptisms.4 The baptisms of all children (except Femmetje) can be found in the Amsterdam baptism database.5
     The Meyer file has a marriage of Trijntje with Jan Waushaer (?spelling). It is not clear how this could happen, she was not a widow at her marriage with Hendrik, and she died before Hendrik!6 Name variation: Tryntie Droogh.7 Married name: Kip.

(no name) 12 April 1705, with license) But both also have that Egbert made his will on 7 Jun 1705, which is after the date reported for his wife's 2nd marriage. Was the date of the will a transcription typo, should it be 7 Jan? Konight made a note that she checked both the will and the corrections.
     There is another Elsje Lucas, daughter of Lucas Elbertszen and Anna Snedecker.
