Witnesses: Johannes De Peyster and Jacobus Van de Water.11,12 Johannes Van Brug was named as executor in Marretje Jans's will dated 7 May 1677.13
     Johannes and Tryntje were listed in the NYDC member list of 1686 as "Johannes Van Brug and his wife Catharina Roelofs" (member #153-4, name#189-90.)14,15 Johannes Pietersen Van Brugh made a will on 22 December 1696. It was proved in 1700. He mention his wife Catrina; his daughter Elizabeth Rodenbergh, now wife of John Donaldson (marr. 29 Mar 1691), of New Castle in Delaware; her sister Lucretia Rodenbergh; his son Peter Van Brugh (first born); children: Elizabeth Donaldson (his wife's child by a former husband); Helena, wife of Tennis De Kay; Catrina, wife of Heniy Renssellaer; Anna, wife of Andrew Gravenroet; Johanes; and Mary, wife of Stephen Richards.16 He was a wheelwright; BC-Families Van Brugh file and his will call him a merchant.17,18,16 Name variation: Johannes Van Brug.5,19 Name variation: Jan Pieterszen Van Brugge. John Van Buiten1

     John Van Buiten was born in 1869 at Houwerzijl, Groningen, The Netherlands.1 He married Geertje Udes on 12 November 1890.2,1 John Van Buiten died on 8 June 1965 at 102 Westervelt Ave, Hawthorne, Passaic County, NJ.1 He was buried in Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Fair Lawn.1

     John Van Buiten immigrated in 1888 (but he married in Holland, so this is not right.)1 The 1910 census lists John Van Buiten and Gertrude at 293 North 8th Street at Prospect Park Borough, Passaic County, NJ, with six children: John (16), Jacob (13), Jerry (10), Nicholas (6), Grace (3), Garry (2) and a boarder Lottie Udes (23.)3
     John was a contractor, and build the buildings that were occupied by the Century Woven Label Company Mills in Prospect Park, which were in February 1918 destroyed by fire. The fire departments of Prospect Park, Haledon and Paterson battled the blaze, but lack of water frustrated their efforts. The mill had been build in 1917, and the damage was estimated at $15.000, not including machinery and goods. A number of houses was also destroyed, damages there were $8000.-. The cause of the fire is unknown, but an investigation will be conducted.4 The 1920 census lists John Van Buiten and Gertrude at 347 North 8th Street at Prospect Park Borough, Passaic County, NJ, with seven children: Jacob (22), Jerry (19), Nicholas (16), Grace (12), Garry (11), Albert (8) and Gertrude (5), a daughter-in-law Elizabeth (26) with her daughter Gertrude ( 3 + 9 mo.)5
John Van Buiten's obituary appeared on 8 June 1965 in the Paterson Evening News (pg. 41.)1 His parents were Jan van Buiten and Geertje Jeltes.2 Name variation: Jan Van Buiten.2 Name variation: John Van Buiten.1
