Arthur Holmes enlisted in the Army of the War of the Rebellion in Sept 10, 1863 and was mustered to duty on Oct 10, 1863. He died of diphtheria on July 12, 1863 in a Baton Rouge Hospital. He was buried there and not returned to Maine for burial.¹

Documentation for Ebenezer Holmes comes from the Priscilla Jones collection taken from Plymouth records. The only record on Ebenezer Holmes Sr. says he is the son of John and Patience Faunce Holmes. His birth date is around 1670, he lived in Plymouth and was married in Plymouth 26 Dec 1695 to Phebe Blackmur, daughter of William Blackmur, married in Plymouth to Elizabeth Banks in 1666. The marriage of John Holmes and Patience Faunce is documented in Mayflower Descendants 13-206. Phebe Blackmur was born in Scituate in 1673, and died 16 April 1734 in her 62 year.(Epitaph Burial Hill, page 20.)
