     Claudius James Tuers was born on 8 July 1881 at Westwood, Bergen County, NJ.² He married Mary Hephachar.

     NOTE: Mary's name is very difficult to determine from WW I Registration Card, and may be in error.² Claudius James Tuers was a conductor, Erie Railroad, Jersey City.
     WW I Registration Card (difficult to read) gives Highland Park, Nyack, NY as location of nearest relative, and possibly place of birth. 1900 Federal Census, Orangetown, Rockland, NY, Claudius is spelled Claudeous, and is found living with Adam Post, Lewis Post, Clara Post, as Brother-in-Law. Adam Francis Post was married to his sister, Irene Tuers.

     Cornelius Tuers was born circa 1790 at New Jersey. He was baptized at New Jersey (sp. Johannis Van Houten and Aletie Sickels.) He married Ellen. Cornelius Tuers died before 1850 at New Jersey.

     John first appears in records in the 1850 Census Newark, NJ, in the household of Ellen Tuers. Age is approximate, birth dates vary from 1829-1832. Birthplace given as NY and NJ in different Census.
     We know that Delia Hennion married a John J Tuers, and that both families were possibly from Morris County. Working with a direct descendant of Cornelius Tuers, we are quite certain that John Jasper Tuers is the correct name of Delia Hennion's husband, and we know that his father's name was Cornelius. However, we have not proven that we have correctly linked John Jasper to this Cornelius. Both names appear in both Newark Census and Newark directories. Ages and locations support a correlation, but we have found no primary records to support our postulation.
     Rather than omit these families, we have chosen to show this Parent/Child link in the hopes that we may find additional records that will help us prove a correct line, allowing a link with which we can provide subsequent family groups.
     Children's names are taken from 1860, 1870, and 1880 Census, Newark, Essex, NJ. Also living with the family in 1880 were: Mary Barries (age 22, servant), her child Carrie A (age 1), and Cellia Leimons (age 25, servant)
     In various census, John J Tuers occupation is listed as "Jappaner". This is a 19th century term for someone who varnishes wooden furniture with a hard brilliant coat of hard lacquer. Invented in Japan.

     Cornelius Tuers was born circa 1855 at New Jersey.² He married Clara P Helminger on 23 July 1891 at Newark, Essex County, NJ.³ Cornelius Tuers died on 17 December 1909 at Newark, NJ.³

     The 1885 census listed Cornelius Tuers in John J and Delia J Tuers's house at Newark (Ward 12), Essex County, NJ, but as a separate household.⁴

     Cornelius (Raymond) Tuers was born on 23 June 1895 at Newark, Essex County, NJ.^2,3 He died after June 1918.

     Raymond worked for International Fuse at time of WWI Draft Registration. Raymond and his sister Clare died within a week of one another in the flu epidemic of 1918. Exact death date uncertain, but Raymond registered for the draft in June 1918, so he died after that date.^2,3

     Cornelius R Tuers was born on 11 December 1906 at New York.² He married Margaret A Sniffen, daughter of Lorenzo D (Alonzo) Sniffen and Margaret Helen Denike, at Yonkers, Westchester County, NY.² Cornelius R Tuers died in December 1973 at Yonkers, NY.³

     His age given in Record of Marriage is 21, but actual birthdate on SSDI is 1906. Residence at time of marriage: 143 Webster Ave, Yonkers, NY.²

     Cornelius S Tuers was born in 1847 at New Jersey.² He (1) married Ida.² Cornelius S Tuers (2) married Catherine Matthews, daughter of William C Matthews and Harriet M Karker.

     The 1870 census lists Cornelius S Tuers and Ida at Ward 14 at Jersey City, Hudson County, NJ, with Leah B (age 2, b. NJ.)² Cornelius S Tuers was a painter.³ The 1880 census lists Cornelius S Tuers and Catherine at ED 33 at Jersey City, Hudson County, NJ, with their children Leah, Jennie and Charles.³
     UNPROVEN RECORD. Misc data indicated that this may be the Cornelius S Tuers who served in the Civil War from NJ. His age is about right, and the other Cornelius Tuers who we have records for was born Michigan.
     Subsequent records for Charles Veers Tuers provide mother's maiden name as Catherine Matthews. The fact that Catherine's parents lived in Jersey City is also another clue that this is the correct record for Cornelius since census records indicate residence in Jersey City.
     NOTE: Daughter Leah cannot be a child of Catherine. In the 1870 census Cornelius is in Jersey City with wife Ida (23) and daughter Leah (2). In the 1880 census he is still in Jersey City, but now with wife Catharine (25), daughter Leah (12) and the two younger children
There is a marriage for a Cornelius Tuers and Ida Welsh in 1866 in Newark.^2,3,4,5

     Cornelius Westervelt Tuers was born on 20 November 1908.^3,4 He married Josephine L Ledonne. Cornelius Westervelt Tuers died in February 1982 at Bergenfield, Bergen County, NJ.⁵

     Cyrus William Tuers was born on 22 February 1854 at Coldwater, Branch County, MI.² He married Ruth C Stevens, daughter of Silas Stevens and Charity Brooks, on 15 January 1899 at Farnsworth, SD.³ Cyrus William Tuers died on 19 March 1943 at Michigan.⁴

     In the marriage record Ruth's hometown is given as Mattheson, MI.³ The 1900 census lists Cyrus William Tuers and Ruth C, with his parents Walter Tuers and Julia Tuers.⁵ Name variation: Cyrus Tuers.⁶

     David Tuers was born on 20 September 1865 at New Jersey. He married Alice M in 1896.²

     The 1930 census lists David H Turse and Alice M at New Britain, CT, with their daughter Helen M (27, b. NJ). While the ages fit, there is no confirmation that this is indeed Aaron's son. His mother is listed as born in Vermont; Mary Thorp was born in NY.² Name variation: David H Turse.²

     David Tuers was born on 18 February 1840 at Bergen County, NJ. He was baptized on 3 May 1840.² He died on 16 April 1865. He was buried in Fairmount Cemetery in Newark, Section H, Lot 97.³

     David Tuers was on 16 July 1860 a shoemaker.⁴ The 1860 census listed David Tuers in John and Betsy (Elizabeth) Slingerland's household at Acquackanonck, Passaic County, NJ.⁵
     He was a Civil War Veteran, Private, Co. K, 26 New Jersey Infantry (but acc. to Find-A-Grave he died 2 Mar 1893, so that cannot be this David.)³

     David Tuers was born on 18 November 1856 at New Jersey.² He married Rhoda Riker, daughter of David H Riker and Eliza Ferris, in 1876 (Not recorded in NJ Archives Online.) David Tuers died on 15 June 1931 at Montclair, Essex County, NJ.² He was buried on 17 June 1931 in Mt. Hebron Cemetery in Montclair, Sec W Lot 3.^3,2

     The 1880 census lists David Tuers and Rhoda at Montclair, Essex County, NJ, with their daughter Henriette; A.M. Baldwin (M, 67, boarder); and on the next page sisters Marie, Phoebe and Frieda (resp. 16, 14, 11), and Lydia Riker (8); George Veary (M, 25, driver), and Holland Leeb (M, 31, driver.)⁴

     Earl Ralph Tuers was born on 9 March 1905 at Franklin, NE.² He married Beulah Lea Etta Schlabach, daughter of Benjamin Schlabach and Sarah Ernstinea Fahndrich, on 20 November 1928 at Smith Center, KS. Earl Ralph Tuers died on 6 August 1996 at Bryan Memorial Hospital, Lincoln, NE. He was buried on 10 August 1996 in Greenwood Cemetery in Franklin.

     Earl Ralph Tuers was the Owner of Sunflower Gas and Oil. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Franklin, NE. Employed early in his adult life by T.R. Blank and Chet Joy at Fort Motor Company in Franklin, Earl later became a partner and then owner of Sunflower Gas and Oil Company. He also maintained an accounting service business. He was a long-time member of the Franklin School Board, serving as Secretary. He was a member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge No. 264 AF & AM, receiving his 70 year service pin on 1 July 1996, he served as secretary for more than 30 years.²

     Eleanor Elizabeth Tuers was born on 7 May 1843 at New Jersey. She married Morgan Miles on 7 May 1862 at San Jose, CA.² Eleanor Elizabeth Tuers died on 29 October 1933.³

     Morgan Miles (born 17 Mar 1839, Charleston, SC; died 4 Oct 1914, Santa Cruz, CA) prepared a page plus some group family sheets on the family history in 1935. It includes children, some tradition about the British confiscation of property 700 Acres by General Sickles. It also notes Joseph Tuers trained as a wheelwright and at one time operated a fish market in Fulton Market, NY City.⁴

She was baptized on 18 April 1819 at Bergen County, NJ, (Paramus DRC) Aletta d/o Lawrence & Hannah Tours.¹ She married Thomas T Banta, son of Thomas S Banta and Margaret Bamper, on 11 April 1835 at Paramus, Bergen County, NJ.¹ Ellen Tuers died on 13 September 1910 at Ridgewood, NJ.¹ She was buried in September 1910 in Valleau Cemetery in Ridgewood, interred as Ellen Turse Banta.¹

     The 1880 census lists Thomas T Banta and Ellen, with their sons John Wilber and Aaron, and his mother-in-law Ann (Hannah) Ackerman (age 80). Aaron's age is listed as 27.³ The 1895 census lists Thomas T Banta and Ellen at Borough of Woodcliff at Washington Twp, Bergen County, NJ. Name variation: Aletta (Ellen) Tours.⁴ Married name: Banta.

     NOTE: James Turse had assigned the 1850 census entry both to Helen Jane Tuers and to Ellen Jane Tuers. However, it is clearly Ellen Jane Tuers: her mother's name is Ellen, and she has a brother John J (although his age is a bit off). However, Ellen Jane is still listed with her maiden name; the children are clearly Van Imburgh (which seems more reasonable than Vanenburgh). I have for the moment left the marriage with Helen, but put the census with Ellen only. See also the note with Ellen's brother John Jasper Tuers.² Name variation: Ellen Tuers.

     Elmer Joseph Tuers was born on 21 February 1924 at Passaic, NJ. He married Mary Frances Gossett. Elmer Joseph Tuers died on 13 April 2010 at Crestview, FL. He was buried on 19 April 2010 in Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola.

     Elmer Joseph Tuers was in the US Navy/Air Force, a veteran of WWII. After many years of service in the U.S. Navy and Air Force, he retired in 1970. He enjoyed fishing and working outdoors, along with spending time with his family.
