NOTE: James Turse had assigned the 1850 census entry both to Helen Jane Tuers and to Ellen Jane Tuers. However, it is clearly Ellen Jane Tuers: her mother's name is Ellen, and she has a brother John J (although his age is a bit off). However, Ellen Jane is still listed with her maiden name; the children are clearly Van Imburgh (which seems more reasonable than Vanenburgh). I have for the moment left the marriage with Helen, but put the census with Ellen only. See also the note with Ellen's brother John Jasper Tuers.³ Name variation: Turse.¹ Married name: Vanenburgh.

The 1860 census lists Henry Tuers and Rebecca at Newark (Ward 2), Essex County, NJ, with their children Henrietta, Mary E, Charlotte and Amelia.³ Marriage record is from IGI (unverified). The 1860 Census, 2nd Ward, Neward, Essex, NJ corroborates ages and names of children.^4,5

The 1920 census lists Herbert F Tuers at 20 Alexander Ave at Montclair, NJ, with his aunts Mary J Garrabrant and Margaret Simonson (69, s, and 77, wd); his brother Charles A Tuers and his nephews Richard and Arthur. They are enumerated next to his brother William and family.³ The 1930 census listed Herbert F Tuers in William Edward and Lillian's household at 40 Alexander Ave at Montclair, Essex County, NJ.⁴
Herbert Tuers is never listed as married. In 1930 he is living with his brother William Edward Tuers and family.⁵

An active homemaker, Irene was short and chubby, but had a great personality. She was noted as a fantastic cook and baker. She made candy at Christmas, and built a steady clientele who looked forward to buying her candy around the holidays. She also crocheted beautifully, making doilies, table cloths, afghans, etc. There was always music in the house. The family had a piano that Beatrice played for the family, and everyone always joined in singing or whistling. The home was a social gathering place for all of the family and friends.² Married name: Post.
