     Hester Mastenbroek was born in 1819 at Ouddorp, Goeree-Overflakkee, Zuid Holland, The Netherlands.¹ She married Klaas Mastenbroek, son of Jan Mastenbroek and Jacomijntje van der Klok, on 1 July 1847 at Ouddorp, Zuid Holland.¹ Hester Mastenbroek died before 1857.²

     Her parents were Cornelis Jacobsz Mastenbroek and Grietje Tanis.¹

     Jan Mastenbroek was born circa 1771 (63 yr at death.)² He married Jacomijntje van der Klok.^1,3 Jan Mastenbroek died on 27 February 1834 at Ouddorp, Goeree-Overflakkee, Zuid Holland, The Netherlands.²

     His parents were Cornelis Mastenbroek and Jannetje Breen.²

     Pietertje Mastenbroek was born in 1885 at Charlois, Zuid Holland, The Netherlands.¹ She married Meindert Griek on 22 January 1908 at Rotterdam, The Netherlands.^1,2 Pietertje Griek died on 9 April 1966 at 610 Upper Mountain Ave, Upper Montclair, Essex County, NJ.² She was buried on 12 April 1966 in Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Fair Lawn.²

     Pietertje Griek immigrated in 1916 to 130 Bloomfield Street, Hoboken, Hudson County, NJ, on the Noordam, from Rotterdam, arriving in New York on May 4, 1916, with four children: Pietertje (9), Paulus (8), Tjalling (3) and Meindert (1). She was going to her husband M. Griek in 130 Bloomfield Street, Hoboken, NJ. Her contact in Holland was her father P. Mastenbroek, Zwijndrechtse straat, Rotterdam.^2,3 The 1920 census lists Meindert Griek and Pietertje at 729 Park Ave (5th Ward) at Hoboken, Hudson County, NJ, with six children: Nellie (10), Paul (9), Charles (5), Meindert (4 + 11 mo), all born in Holland, and Abraham (1 + 5 mo) and Alice (3 + 2 mo) born in NJ.⁴
Pietertje Mastenbroek Griek's obituary appeared on 11 April 1966 in the Paterson Evening News (pg. 35, with an addition on the 13th.)⁵ Her parents were Paulus Mastenbroek and Aaltje Vlasblom.¹ Name variation: P.      Mary Masters was born on 17 April 1733.¹ She was baptized on 9 May 1773.² She married Abraham Van Wagonen, son of Abraham Van Wagonen and Hillegond Crispell, on 16 June 1799 at Marbletown, NY.¹ Mary Masters died on 26 November 1822.¹

     Frank Mather was born on 22 May 1899 prob. At Barton Upon Irwell, Lancashire, England. He married Ellen (Nellie) Goodman, daughter of John G Goodman and Elizabeth Hawkes, in June 1926 at Sandwell, England, (West Bromwich.) Frank Mather died before 1976.

     Frank Mather was a sapper in the Royal Engineers in the World War I and served on the Somme. He was too old to serve in World War II but did join the Home Guard, which was formed as a last line of defense in Britain during the second war, composed mainly of the elderly, and the young and those on reserved occupations for the war effort. He was a lieutenant and used to bring unexploded incendiary bombs home, which had fallen when he was on night duty. The last one he brought home was an incendiary with the addition of an explosive head timed to go off a minute or two after the magnesium had ignited and people were about to smother the bomb with sand.

In civilian life, he was trained as a toolmaker before he went into the army, but after WW I, he also became a pattern maker and eventually took charge of the foundry and pattern shop at the Witton Works of Britain's General Electric Corporation, when his father retired.

NJ.² The 1900 census lists Frederick Matthews and Hattie, with children Harry (22, b. Feb 1878, laborer), William (17, b. Oct 1882, laborer), Emma (15, b. Nov 1884), James (12, b. Feb 1888), Lizzie (9, b. May 1891), Milly (4, b. Aug 1895), Minnie (3, Apr 1897). Frederick is 46, b. May 1854, teamster; Harriet is 41, b. Sep 1858, they were married 23 yrs, had 9 children, 8 living. All are b. NJ.³ The 1910 census lists Edward Mathews and Hattie at Pequannock Twp, NJ, with children Edward, Jr. (29, laborer at a rubbermill), William (27, laborer at a rubbermill), Mildred (14), Minnie (12), Melvin (9), Emma Miller (25, married 5 years), grandsons Earnest (4) and Lloyd (3) Miller. Edward is 54, farmer on rented land; Harriet is 49, they were married 30, had 10 children, 9 living. All are b. NJ.⁵
     In 1932 (at the time of their uncle Jacob's will) four children were living in Riverdale, NJ, and one in Pompton Lakes, NJ. Name variation: Frederick Matthews.³

     Konight has a note that Rachel Matthyse, who married Augustyn Van Donk might not be a daughter of Mathys Cornelisse and Tryntje Helling. She states "no family as witness," but it is unclear whether this is at Rachel's baptism (when the sponsors are the same as for Dirck), or at Rachel's children's baptism (when the sponsors are all from the Van Donk side).
     She does have a Rachel Matthysse, who married (1) John Borgond, (2) Lucas Van Horn, and (3) Isaac Van Duzer, but gives no more information. BC-Families (Van Horn File) has that Rachel as daughter of Mathys and Tryntje, but d.
     The will of Matthys Cornelis mentions daughter Rachel Begonem, which is likely Rachel Borgond
     BC-Families (Van Deusen File) has Isaac Van Deusen, who married Rachel Begonn or Bergen in 1762; they have four children. This cannot be the same Rachel, as she would be 70 at the birth of her last child.^8,9,2,10 Married name: Borgond. Married name: Van Horn.
