     The Terhune (Gen) Fan chart has Lawrence's parents as Jacob Turse and Aeltje Blauvelt, which would be Lourens Jacob Toers. However, he married Hannah Young.⁵

     Grandfather's will mentions daughter Polly's children John and Lawrence (both under 18 in 1801), but does not give their last name. Is unclear, whether Marytje or Metje is Polly.⁶

     Metye Toers was born on 5 February 1776.¹ She was baptized on 27 February 1777 at Tappan, NY, (Irregular RC.)¹

     Nicholas Toers was born in 1827 at New Jersey.² He married Jane.

     The 1850 census lists Nicholas Tuers and Jane at Bergen, Hudson County, NJ, with Effie Tuers (44, b. NJ). This could be his mother, except that she supposedly died in 1835.² Nicholas had no occupation in 1850. The value of his Real Estate was $20,000.² Nicholas Toers and Jane had one son, who died as a child. With his death, the line of Claes Arentsen Toers became extinct in the male line..³ Name variation: Nicholas Tuers.²

     Nicholas (Klaes) Thomasen Toers was born circa 1720. He married Margrietie Banta, daughter of John Banta and Cornelia Van Sicklen, on 24 July 1748 at Schraalenburgh, Bergen County, NJ.^3,4 Nicholas (Klaes) Thomasen Toers died in 1767 (He was murdered.)

Nicholas Tuers 1767 Murder
     On the occasion of the 300th anniversary of Bergen County the following report of the murder of Nicholas Tuers was published in the March 8th 1983 Sunday Record, Hackensack, NJ. (Submitted by Walter A. Tuers)
     Undoubtedly one of the most bizarre murder cases in Bergen County history occurred September 11, 1767, in a Hackensack rooming house. Accounts of the story made the London Times. A reward of 10 pounds ($40) was offered for Harry, a 40-year -old former mulatto slave, who is suspected of murdering Nicholas Tuers, a laborer. The reward appears in the Sept. 28, 1767, edition of the Pennsylvania Chronicle, according to material found in the NJ Archives, First Series, Volume XXV.
     The five foot six inch, well set Harry, a miller and carpenter, had a wife named Peg and two children. Peg skipped bail in Sussex County, and authorities felt that they would be able to capture Harry when the couple tried to get together. Harry was later apprehended and stood trial for the murder.
Johannes Demarest, Bergen County coroner, said he was summoned to inspect Tuers's body. The coroner explains that Harry was suspected of having murdered Tuers, but authorities didn't have any proof.
     Harry vehemently denied his guilt. Demarest then asked Harry if he was afraid to touch Tuers'' body. He said he wasn't, and immediately approached the dead corpse then lying in a coffin.
One of the jurors at the inquest, Staats Storm, said, "I am not afraid of him (Tuers)."
Storm then stroked the dead man's face with his hand. Nothing happened. The jury then ordered Harry to touch Tuers' face with his hand. When he complied, blood immediately ran out of both nostrils of the dead man and there were cries in the room, "He (Harry) is the man." Demarest said he then ordered Harry to rub his hand again on Tuers"s face and he did so. Quickly the blood again gushed out of both nostrils. When they saw this, the jurors felt it was better than eyewitness testimony. The people in the room all charged Harry with being the murderer. He denied it for a few minutes but then confessed to the crime.
     Later, he admitted that he murdered Tuers, first striking him with an axe and then, for good measure, driving a wooden peg in the dead man's ear. Afterward, he said he struck Tuers a second time with his axe, and then held him fast until he was done struggling. Harry who lived in the same rooming house, said the reason he killed Tuers was that if he was out of the way, he would get his berth (sleeping place.)

     Nicolaes Arentsen Toers was born on 23 March 1736/37 at Bergen County, NJ.² He was baptized on 26 April 1737 at Bergen (now Jersey City), Hudson County, NJ, (first son.)³ He married Jannetje Cornelisen Van Riper, daughter of Cornelius Gerritse Van Riper and Aeltje Van Winkle, on 31 May 1766 at Bergen, NJ, (DRC) (by Domini W. Jackson.)^2,4,5 (Banns on 11 May 1766 at Bergen (now Jersey City), NJ. He was Nicklaas Toers, ym; she Jannetje Van Reype, yd, both b. and liv. at Bergen.)⁴ Nicolaes Arentsen Toers died on 26 February 1815.^2,6

     Nicolaes Arentsen Toers and Jannetje Cornelisen lived at Bergen at the time of marriage.^7,8 Nicolaes Arentsen Toers was a Deacon at the Bergen Dutch Reformed Church in 1785-86, and served as a Freeholder from 1783-1786.^7,8 He made a will on 19 August 1814. It was proved 6 Apr 1815.

Wife, Jane, use, possession and whole profit of all estate, real and personal, during widowhood (except my son, Aaron, should take a wife, then my wife will be entitled to V2 of said profits).      Nicolaes Claes Toers was born on 11 May 1703 at Bergen, NJ, (bo. between 10 and 11 May; seventh child and third son.)^2,1 He was baptized on 21 June 1703 at Bergen, NJ, (DRC) (sp. Davidt Willense and Merritje van Neste, his wife; father Claes Arentse Toers, mother Jacomeyntje van Neste.)² He died on 13 November 1729.^3,1 He was buried on 15 November 1729 in DRC Cemetery in Bergen, as "Nicolaes Arentsen Toers, ym."³

     Pietertje Claes Toers was born on 6 September 1696.² She was baptized on 5 October 1696 at Bergen, NJ, (DRC) (sp. Enoch Vreelant and his wife Grietje Wessels; father Claes A. Tours, mother Jacomeyntje van Neste.)² She married Gerrit Steynmets, son of Christopher Steinmets and Sara Van Nest, on 12 November 1744 at Second River, NJ, (DRC) (with license; Gerrit Steimit and Pietertie Tuerse.)^3,1

     She was unmarried at the time her mother made her will in 1730.⁴ Married name: Steynmets.

     Rachel Toers was born on 12 September 1821 at Paramus, NJ. She was baptized on 7 October 1821.² She married John Jans Vlierboom, son of Jan Jans Vlierboom and Angenietje Vanderbeek, on 16 December 1839 at Saddle River, NJ, (DRC.)³ Rachel Toers died on 8 September 1896.

     The 1860 census lists John Fleaboam and Rachel at Washington Twp, Bergen County, NJ, with them is Jane Louise (Turise), Widow, Age 75. An Eleanor Fleaboam (widow, 83) is living next door.⁴ Name variation: Rachel Tourse. Name variation: Rachel Fleaboam ((in 1860 census.)) Married name: Vlierboom.

     Rynier Toers was born on 3 August 1803 at New Jersey.² He was baptized on 28 August 1803 at Acquackanonck, NJ.³ He married Jemima.²

     In the 1850 Census he is in Colorado Territory with his wife Jemima. His wife is buried in Montezuma County, CO.⁴ The 1870 census lists Rynier Toers and Jimima at Huerfano County, Colorado Territory.² Name variation: Ryanier Turse.²

     Samuel Jacob Toers was born on 12 September 1800. He was baptized on 26 October 1800 at Acquackanonck, NJ, (sp. Samuel Toers, Annatje Kogh.) He married Rachel Ackerman, daughter of Isaac Ackerman and Synche Post, on 16 August 1822.¹

     Randolph's notes say on page 93 #313 that Samuel Jacob is "said to be son of Al Tuers and a Miss Demarest", but this is not consistent with his other records of the marriage. It is also not consistent with The Demarest Genealogy, in our file, shows Albert Bertolph born 1837, married Priscilla Demarest.^1,3
     Harry Scott Mann and Mable Spohn are the grandparents Richard Mann; great-grandparents are Henry Spohn and Susan Tuers; great-great-parents are Joseph Samuel Tuers and Lydia Campbell.

     Mary Toland was born on 12 August 1820.¹ She married John S Van Houten, son of Peter Van Houten and Hannah Tomkins.¹ Mary Toland died on 25 June 1855 at Vernon, NJ.¹

     Her parents were Abren Toland and Matilda. Her father was b. in 1789 in Virginia, her mother in 1798 in New Jersey.¹ Married name: Van Houten.

     Susan Ethel Tolbert was born on 31 August 1879 at Kamas, Summit County, UT.¹ She married George Gideon Hendricks, son of William Dorris Hendricks and Mary Jane Andrus, on 12 June 1901 at Logan, Cache County, UT.¹ Susan Ethel Tolbert died on 30 November 1913 at Richmond, Cache County, UT.¹
