     Leendert Smack made a will on 11 October 1738. It was proved 12 Apr 1739. He was Leendert Smock, of Piscataway, Middlesex Co. Names wife Sarah; daughters: Sytle Boice and Sarah Clauson; granddaughter Neiltie Tunison; grandson Leonard Smock; son John (under 21). Executors: Dollen Hageman, Aurea Booram, and brother Johannes Smock. Witnesses: John Carter, Jeremiah Field, Jr, and Johannes Swart.²

     Matthys Smack was born at New Utrecht, NY, (Sources say c. 1644, but that seems impossible.)^2,3 He married Lysbeth Stephenszen, daughter of Jan Stevenson and Lysbeth Lucas.^4,1 (Banns on 12 September 1701 at DRC, New York City. He was Matthys Smak jm from N. Uitrecht; she Elisabeth Stevens widow from N. Yorck. [no mar. date entered])^5,4

     Matthys Smack and Lysbeth had three more children, named in father's will: Lucas, Jacobus, and Mary.⁶ Matthys Smack made a will on 2 October 1721. It was proved 30 Mar 1727. He was Matthias Smock, of Piscattaway, Middlesex Co., yeoman. Names wife Elizabeth; sons Hendrick, John, Lucas, Matthias, and Jacobus; daughters Elizabeth, Gertie, and Mary. Wife sole executrix. Witnesses: Samuel Conners, Leendert Smock, and John Cholwell.^7,6 Name variation: Mathys Hendricksen Smack.²

     Rebecca Smack was baptized on 27 February 1681 at Flatbush, NY, (DRC) (sponsors: Cornelis Cloppers (Cors Clofferd) and Heyltje Kloppars (Heyltje Klappards) of NY; father Hend'k Mathys Smak, mother Geurtje Harmans.)^3,4,5 She married Johannes Swart, son of Jacob Hellakers and Teuntje Teunis.⁴

     Thomas Small was born in 1776 at Philadelphia.¹ He married Mary Mitchell, daughter of Lewis Mitchell and Sarah Crabtree.¹ Thomas Small died on 14 August 1851 at Belfast Academy, Aroostook, ME.¹ He was buried in Ludlow Cemetery in Ludlow.¹

     In the book, it is noted that grantee relatives marred grantee relatives, a spouse of a grantee was the sister of another - Thomas Small's wife was Mary Mitchell, daughter of Lewis Mitshell, and a sister of John and William Mitchell. 'Intermarriage was a significant factor in the initial pattern of settlement'.

     'Among the Ludlow (Canada) residents of the original 1809 grantees, nine were living in Maine by 1850 ....Thomas Small' (page 62)....This would seem an unusual migration with one-sixth of all the 1809 grantees moving to Maine after living on their Ludlow (Canada) farms, some more than 40 years. This must have been a traumatic experience considering that all were over 60 years of age. Not surprisingly, a large number of the first generation sons and daughters followed the lead of their elders ... Few of the original families remained untouched by this emigration of the 1840's .... The movement was concentrated among particular extended families - Munros, Mooers, Rideouts, Smalls, Sutters and Wassons were virtually eliminated from the Upper Mirimichi by 1850.¹'

     Petrus Smedes was baptized on 7 December 1701 at Kingston, NY.^1,2 He married Catherine Du Bois, daughter of Jacob Du Bois and Gertrude Gerritsen Van Newkirk, on 12 February 1724.¹ Petrus Smedes died before October 1783.¹ His estate was probated on 13 October 1783.¹

     Rachel Smedes married Niclaes Bogardus, son of Everhardus Bogart and Taatje Hoffman, on 20 December 1730 at Kingston, NY.^1,2

     Ariaan Lambertse Smeets was born circa 1620 at The Netherlands.² He married Willemke Jans on 16 June 1647 at Tuil, Gelderland, The Netherlands, (DRC) (He was Ariaan Lambertse Smeets, soldier under Capt. de Swart; she Willemke Jans, jd from Tuijl.)¹ Ariaan Lambertse Smeets (2) married Dirckje Cornelis on 7 September 1656 at Tuil, Gelderland, (DRC) (He was Ariaen Lamertsen, wid. of Willemke Jans; she Dirckske Cornelis, jd from Haaften.)^3,4 Ariaan Lambertse Smeets died after 1694.²

     BC-Families Crom File has Lena as Cathalena, daughter of Ariaan Lambertse Schmidt and (1) Willemke, bapt. 21 Jun 1646 in Tiel (Thuyl) in Gelderland. As Tiel and Tuil (Thuyl) are separate towns, this needs more research. FamilySearch has an baptism index for both Tiel and Tuil, but she does not seem to be listed in either on the date specified.      The 1880 census lists Albert Smit and Jane at Ridgewood Twp, Bergen County, NJ, with their children Amos, Tunis, Maria, Harm, Lyda and Albert.⁴ The 1885 census lists Albert Smit and Jane at Ridgewood, Bergen County, NJ, with Harm, Lyda and Albert (Herm. 20-60, Lida and Albert 5-20.)⁵ The 1895 census lists Albert Smit and Jennigje at Midland Park Borough at Franklin Township, Bergen County, NJ, with Albert (20-60.)² Albert Smit and Jennigje had twelve children, of which ten were living in 1900.³ His parents were Aalt Klaazen Smit and Hendrikje Eijmberts Braake.¹
