     The 1880 census lists Thomas Boyd and Catherine, with two children: Maggie (4), and William (2), both b. NY. Thomas is 45, b. England, a printer; Catherine is 20, b. England. The children's parents are listed as b. in NY!² The 1885 census lists Catherine Boyd at Lodi Borough, Bergen County, NJ, with four children: William and Maggie (5-20), Agnes and Bessie (0-4) Boyd; and John (20-60), Lizzie (5-20), and Joseph (0-4) Ward.³ Married name: Boyd.

     Belitje Hercx was baptized on 4 February 1652 at New York City (DRC) (sp. Lambert Huybertszen, Jacob Teuniszen, Jan Janszen, and Beelitje Jacobs; father Herck Sybertszen, mother not listed.)^3,4,5 She married Conraet Ten Eyck, son of Conraet Ten Eyck and Maria Boele, on 19 May 1675 at New York City (DRC.)^6,1,3,7,8,9 (Banns on 25 April 1675. He was Coenraedt ten Eyck, Jr., jm from Yorke; she Belytje Hercks, jd, as above.)^6,10

     Conras and Belitje were listed in the NYDC meber list of 1868 as "Coenraed Ten Eyck, Junior and his wife Belitje Hercx" (member # 135-6, name #169-70.)^11,12 Name variation: Belitjen Krankhuyt.³ Married name: Ten Eyck.

     Teunis Hercxen was from the Armen bouwerye acc. to his marriage certificate.³ He was baptized on 4 July 1655 at New York City (DRC) (sp. Arie Dirckszen, Jochem Caljer, Teunis Teuniszen, Belitje Jacobs, and Susanna Jans; father Hendrick Siboutszen, mother Weyntie Teunis.)^1,4,5 He married Sophia Hendrix, daughter of Hendrick Martanszen and Margaret Meyhring, on 10 September 1679 at New York City (DRC.)^1,6,3 (Banns on 10 August 1679. He was Theunis Hercxen, jm from the Armen bouwerye; she Sophia Hendricks, jd from the Esopus.)³

     Teunis Hercxen lived at Cortlandt Manor at Westchester County, NY.¹ Name variation: Theunis Kronkhite.¹ Name variation: Thunis Herricsen Krankheyt.⁷ Name variation: Teunis Herck.⁸ Name variation: Theunis Kranckheyt Herricksen.⁹

     Jannetje Eliasz Herdewijn was born at Antwerp, Belgium.² She was from Dordrecht acc. to her marriage certificate.¹ She married Guilliam Provoost Jr.¹ (Banns on 8 February 1603 at Amsterdam, The Netherlands.)¹

     The baptisms in Dordrecht start at 1588; A Jan Elias Eerdewijn and A Jacob Centen Eerdewijn each have a daughter Margrieta bp. in 1588, and a Cornelis Haerdewijn has a daughter Margrita in 1595. So it is certainly plausible, that she is from Dordrecht.³
     03 Jun 1636. Authorization by Guilliam and Elias Provoost, also for David Provoost, Benjamin Provoost (a minor), and their minor sisters, to receive payment for a house in Middelburg, Zeeland, that their father Guilliam de Elder had sold. It also mentioned his mother Janneken Hardewerijns.⁴
     02 Aug 1636. Janneken Herdewijns, widow and guardian over her minor children, received a receipt from Dirck de Ruijter from Middelburg for a house that her late husband had left to his children. It also mentions Guilliam, Elias and David Provoost, children of Guilliam Provoost, appearing also for the other minor children.⁵ Jannetje Eliasz Herdewijn and Guilliam had five more children (see below). They are all (except Janneke) mentioned in the Notarial Archives in 1636; Guillaume, Elias and David are of age; the others are minors. David is not present, which could mean he is the one who is in New Amsterdam at the time.

     Frederick J Hering was born on 30 January 1811.^3,1 He was baptized on 7 February 1811 at Tappan, NY, (DRC.)^3,1 He married Margaret Demarest, daughter of Garret Demarest and Elizabeth Doremus, on 13 August 1833.^3,4 Frederick J Hering died on 3 January 1903.³ He was buried in Old Hook Cemetery in Westwood.

     There is some dispute about Frederick's middle name, but given the tendency to use the patrynomic in Dutch colonial society, we have presumed that "J" rather than "I", as used by some recorders of his family data, is the correct middle initial.

     Gerrett F Hering was born on 7 June 1837.² He married Jane Amelia Blauvelt. Gerrett F Hering died in 1921 at Montvale, Bergen County, NJ. He was buried in Old Hook Cemetery in Westwood.

     Gerrett F Hering was a cider and sawmill owner.
     From a petition relative to his wife's father's estate, he was living in Montvale as early as February 3, 1882. He served as the borough's first freeholder in 1894. In 1895 he was a "Commissioner of Deed of County of Bergen" (St. Paul's - Ter Kuile deed) and a notary (census). He was Montvale's second Mayor from 1898-1901. (50th p.10) In 1900 he was living in Montvale with his wife "Amelia," ("J. Amelia in 1895), and his occupation was "cider manufacturer and saw mill." "An ad in the 'Circle Hall' program in 1896 listed Garret F. Hering and Son makers of and dealers in sweet sparkling cider."(50th p. 7)
     This mill was previously owned by his father-in-law John J. Blauvelt (See his record.) The pond formed by the mill dam was known for many years as Hering's Pond (later Huff's Pond). His son and later the Huffs conducted an ice making operation on the site.
     Also living with them in 1895 and 1900 was his father, Fredrick J. Haring, who was an 89 year old widower, who was "supported by son."
     In the 1906-7 directory of Montvale Garret was a "station agent", in the 1907-10 he was "comm. of deeds," Garret and Amelia lived at 13 West Grand Ave. in the "Octagon House," built by his father-in-law. Tradition tells us that he flagged down the trains from the belvedere of the Octagon house. He died in Montvale in 1921 and is buried with his wife in the Old Hook Cemetery (now Westwood Cem.), in Westwood, NJ.
     On December 20, 1859, he married Jane "Amelia "Blauvelt. She was the daughter of John J. Blauvelt and Sophia Bogert. She was born in September 1840 (census) or 1844 (gravestone) in Montvale and died in 1922. On 15 Aug 1925 John B. Haring and Evelena Blauvelt exr. of the estate of Amelia Haring
dec'd. sold the land she had received from her father and her husband's estates (including the mill pond and Octagon House) to Fredrick Huff (Bergen Co. Deed 1353-102).

     John F Hering was born on 3 December 1842.³ He was baptized on 15 January 1843 at Tappan, Rockland County, NY, (DRC.)³ He married Hannah Durie, daughter of Nicholas Durie and Maria Demarest, on 9 October 1869. John F Hering died on 18 November 1911.¹

     They resided first at Closter and later in Montvale, NJ on land purchased 5 Aug 1871 from John J. Blauvelt, situated on the southeast corner of Kinderkamack Rd. and Hamilton St. In 1900, John F. was a carpenter living in Montvale, aged 56 years, with his wife Hannah, aged 50, who was born in May 1850, in NJ. The census record indicated they were married 38 years this must be in error for 28 years! The record also indicated that Hannah had given birth to three children all of whom were living. Her parents were both born in New Jersey as well. John F. Harring, carpenter, was listed in the 1906-08 Railroad Directories of Montvale but not in the 1909-10 directory. He d. intestate on 18 Nov 1911 and is buried with his wife at Westwood Cemetery. (formerly Old Hook Cem.) (p.---) On 16 Aug 1920, the heirs sold the homestead property to Joseph Maconkey.

They mention their children: Johanes Herman; Martin; Elsie, wife of Burger Myndert; Ruttie, wife of Claes Guysberts; Helena, wife of Edward Cock; Catrina; and Anna. Letters of Administration granted to eldest son Johanes Meyer.⁶ Married name: Meyer.
