The typical German immigrant to PA during this time did the following:
Went from the Palatinate up the Rhine to Holland, a trip of 3 to 6 weeks. Remained in Holland which was very expensive 5-6 weeks, usually departing from Rotterdam, taking another 1 -2 weeks to get to an English port - the Isle of Wight, London, Cowes, or even Tweed in Scotland. The voyage across the Atlantic involved another 9-12 weeks at sea.1
