     See Nelson's History of Paterson for facts about this man, which states in part: 'He was born in the stone house formerly standing on the east side of the Boulevard between Twentieth and Twenty-first Avenues. He subsequently built and occupied the stone house near the corner of Twenty-first Avenue and Forty-second Street, now owned by Peter A. Van Houten. He was a man of superior education, and held the office of justice of the peace for many years, being usually decribed in deeds as Cornelius Vreeland, Esq. He was stricken by paralysis about seven years before his death and was bed ridden since then. He carried on his father's tannery and also a saw mill on the brook near the corner of the present Boulevard and Twentieth Avenue. Squire Vreeland and his wife both died the same day.
His home was at 'Weasel', where he owned large tracts of land. He and his brother, Michael, received all of their father's lands plus the real estate that came from their grandfather.
Cornelius and Elizabeth joined the Church at Acquackanonk on confession of their faith 25 Oct 1798.2,4 Name variation: Cornelius Hartmansen Vreeland.5
