Jacobus Janse Joralemon lived on 30 December 1695 at Bergen (now Jersey City), NJ, where he purchased 24 acres of land within the bounds of Newark on the east side of the third river from John Francis of Newark and his wife Keeshie.1 He was in 1709 a carpenter; and in 1757 a wheelwright and carpenter.1
Jacobus was elected deacon of the Dutch Church in Acquackanonck in May 1709, May 1711, and May 1714. In 1722 he was elected elder.1 He made a will on 26 March 1757 at Second River, NJ.      NOTE: There is no proven connection (aside from the patronymic) between Jan Joralemon and Cornelia Jans Joralemon, Margriet Joralemon and Hendrick Jansen Ralewyn!! It is unclear where the information comes from.
There is no proof, but Jan Joralemon is believed to have had the following children: Helmer, Jacobus and Jan. The Joralemon name in the Bergen records was spelled Ralemon and Ralemont.
Bergen Families (Jeralomon File) lists the parents of Helmer as Jan (Jeralomon) and Mary Jochums, but does not have parents for any of the other possible children, and no listing for a Jan (Johannes) and Mary.
Mary Jochums was the wife of Gysbert Bogert (Helmer's stepfather). In the Bergen Families (Bogert A-G File) Gysbert married Mary, widow of John Jochem Kalder. This would mean she was probably married three times.1,2,3
