Volkert Janse Douw1
M, b. circa 1610
| Father | Jan Douw2 |
Volkert Janse Douw was from Frederickstadt, Germany, acc. to his marriage certificate. He married Dorothe Breestede, daughter of Jan Janszen Van Breestede and Engeltje Jans, on 19 April 1650 at New Amsterdam (He was jm from Frederikstadt, she jd from Breestede.)1,3
Family | Dorothe Breestede d. 1681 |
| Children |
Volckert was from Frederickstadt at marriage, and settled in Albany, NY. BC-Families has him born in Leeuwarden, Friesland. Talcott has his father as being from Leeuwarden, and by implication Volkert is as well; and Talcott states that he went to Fredrickstadt to avoid religious prosecution.1,4,2
WikiTree does not have Dorothea Volkerts as a daughter of Volkert Janse Douw; and that seems to make perfect sense. Volkert married in 1650; Dorothea has a child born in 1652. The only way she could be a daughter of Volkert Douw is if there was an earlier marriage; she certainly is not a daughter of Dorothe Breestede
Talcott does have a daughter Dorothe, but does not have her married to Pieter Jans DeWitt (and he does not treat the DeWitts)
BC-Families does not have a spouse for Pieter Jans, and only has the two daughters.3,2,5
Andries Witbeck is a grandson of Volkert Janse Douw, through his daughter Engeltje, who married Andries Witbeck, son of Jan Thomas Witbeck and Geertruy Andriesz.6
