Elbert Elbertsen Stoothoff b. 1620
She was a member of the Dutch Church of Brooklyn in 1663.7 Sarah Roeloffse made a will on 29 July 1692. It was probated 21 Oct 1693. She was widow of Elbert Elbertse Stouthoff. She mentioned her seven children with her deceased husband: Roelof, Blandina, Johanes, Luycas, Catherine, Jacobus, and Rachel (but in the codicil she mentions "the wives of my five sons"); her son-in-law Jacobus Kip; her deceased son Hans, her son Yochem Kierstede; her granddaughter Sarah, eldest daughter of her daughter Rachel Kierstede and her husband Ytie Kierstede; daughter Anna Van Borsum, of my late husband Cornelius Van Borsum; her sons Hans Kierstede and Roelif Kierstede have already received their share. She appoints Jacobus Kip, Lucas Kierstede and William Teller als guardian over Anna Van Borsum, and as executors.23,22
The will has some strange connections: She mentioned her seven children with her deceased husband: Roelof, Blandina, Johanes, Luycas, Catherine (m. Johannes Kip), Jacobus, and Rachel; son Yochem Kierstede mentioned separately, but not among her seven children; her granddaughter "Sarah, eldest daughter of her daughter Rachel Kierstede and her husband Ytie Kierstede," Rachel does not have a daughter Sarah, but Roelof and his wife Itie do!
Sarah had the greatest proficiency in the Indian language of anyone in the colony. In 1664 she acted as interpreter for Gov. Stuyvesant in the great treaty with the River Indians.1 Name variation: Sarah Roeloffse Jansen.9 Married name: Kierstede. Married name: Van Borsum. Married name: Stoothoff.
