Jacob came from Campen (Kampen), Overysel, Holland in Sep 1637 on board the "den Herinck" (Hering). He was in New Amsterdam in 1638. He returned to Holland for a while then came back to America to be a carpenter for Killian Van Renselaer at Rensselaerwyck. In 1647 he ran a mill at Greenbush. He outfitted vessels sailing the Hudson (HSYB 1900 p. 171). He was at Albany 1654-1662; abt 1667 at Kinderhook (now Columbia County).
Delaney in her intro gives proof that Jacob did not come from Kampen, but from Amsterdam.1,3,2,4 Jacob Jans Flodden and Barentje had two children.5 His children called themselves Gardenier.2
Snyder-Brown seems to have Alida as daughter of Jacob Jans and his second wife Baerentje Straetman, but does call him Jan. However: Jan Fyn is witness at the baptism of Jan, son of Hendrick Jansen and Cornelia Claessen on 12 May 1700 (Holland Society YB, 1904, pg. 83) and Jan and Alida Fyn are witnesses at the baptism of Thomas, son of Eduwart Whiler and Josyntje Jacobsen (daughter of Jan Jacobse Gardenier) on 5 Jan 1700 (Holland Society Yb, 1904, pg. 81). It seems that the father's patronymic has been transferred to the children.5,6,7 Name variation: Jacob Jans Gardenier.1 Name variation: Jacob Jansen Gardenier.1

His wife Elsie to be executor; friends Captain Jacob De Kay and Peter Oblinus, Trustees. Witnesses: Johanes Thomas, David Mandevill, Hendrick De Camp, William Huddlestone.13,6
Both Konight and BC-Families Hermans File have a 2nd marriage with Thomas Rainsford for Elsje on 12 Apr 1705 (Olivetree has: Thomas Rantforz with Elsje Van den Berg, wid. Was the date of the will a transcription typo, should it be 7 Jan? Konight made a note that she checked both the will and the corrections.
