He was manumitted with 10 others on 25 Feb 1644. He took the blame for the murder of Jan Primero, but was pardoned, when the hangman's rope broke. He was issued a patent on 21 Dec 1644, and again on 19 Oct 1645; these were both confirmed by Governor Nicholls on 19 Oct 1667.1
Emanuel/Manuel Van Angola presents a problem.
Dickerson has Groot/Big Manuel DeGerrit and Manuel Gerrit De Reus aka Manuel Swager. Both were manumitted on 25 Feb 1644 in the original 11, who petitioned Kieft for freedom.
