     A ground brief was issued on 14 July 1645 to Paulo and his wife CLara Creole. Paulo was a free negro at the time, one of the original eleven, who successfully petitioned Governor Kieft for manunission on 25 Feb 1644. The ground brief was confirmed to his wife and her second husband Manuel Petersen on 18 Oct 1667 by Governor Nicolls.2
     Dorothy was the godmother of Anthony Angola (but not listed as a sponsor), and she adopted him when his parents died shortly after 1644. Dorothy and her husband Manuel applied succesfully for a certificate of freedom; he was declared 'born free' at age 18, on 21 Mar 1661. He inherited the patent of his father on 19 Oct 1667.4 Name variation: Clara Creole.4 Name variation: Etory or Retory D'Angola.4
