In 1850 house 306 is occupied by Edward (32) and Elizabeth (29) Hanes (?sp) and Eliza Sisco (25); and (different family) Hannah Jackson (33) with Mary (3), Thomas (5) and James (8) Jackson; house 307 by Samuel Thompson; house 308 is occupied by William Jackson and family; and house 309 by John Jeffrey (56, b. England) with his wife Anna (50, b. England, and daughter Eliza (27, b. England); and (different family) Thomas J Jackson with his family. The Jeffreys are white, everyone else is black. The adult males are all boatmen (except John Jeffrey, for whom no occupation is listed). The next page lists some more (black) boatmen: Ceasar Hannibal with his family (including a Susan Jackson); William Brown (45) with Elizabeth (40), and two children Sarah (14) and William (10.)¹
