     He attended school in LAwrenceville and Trenton, NJ, and graduated from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ, with an A.B.¹ John (James) Ralph Sutphen was sports editor for The Record newspaper of Hackensack, NJ. He moved to political editor in 1932. In 1939 he became a congressional aide to Rep. Frank C Osmers of Englewood. During World War II he was an assistant editor of Coal Age publication. In 1945 he rejoined The Record as city editor, becoming managing editor in 1958, senior managing editor in 1969. He retired in 1976. He was active in golf and served on the Planning Board of Bergen County and the Pascack Valley Hospital board.¹ Name variation: James (Jim) Sutphen.¹

     Ralph Terhune Sutphen was born on 15 January 1808 at Hillsborough, NJ.¹ He married Sarah French on 2 December 1833.¹ Ralph Terhune Sutphen died on 27 March 1876.¹

     Rachel Sutton was born on 28 September 1780.¹ She married Aaron Gardner Sr., son of Joniah Gardner Sr.¹ Rachel Sutton died on 10 June 1833.¹

     Anna Dorothy Svantner was born on 21 January 1862 at Nonakdyne, Czechoslovakia.¹ She married Joseph Schamberger Sr., son of George Schamberger and Ursula Kokeisi, on 21 January 1882 at Nonakdyne.¹ Anna Dorothy Svantner died on 19 January 1937 at Garfield, NJ.¹

     Anna Dorothy Schamberger immigrated on 8 June 1892 to Port of New York, New York City, with her children.¹ Joseph Schamberger Sr. and Anna Dorothy lived at 78 Wessington Ave at Garfield, NJ.¹ Married name: Schamberger.

     Karna Svensdotter was born in 1780 at Hedeskoga, Sweden.¹ She married Jons Erlandsson, son of Erland Jonsson and Anna Mickelsdotter.¹ Karna Svensdotter died in 1837 at Hedeskoga.¹

     Emanuel/Manuel Van Angola presents a problem.
     Dickerson has Groot/Big Manuel DeGerrit and Manuel Gerrit De Reus aka Manuel Swager. Both were manumitted on 25 Feb 1644 in the original 11, who petitioned Kieft for freedom.
     Groot Manuel took the blame for the murder of Jan Primero, but was pardoned, when the rope broke. He received patents on 21 Dec 1644 and 19 Oct 1645 (both confirmed 19 Oct 1667)
     Manuel de Swager received patents from Kieft (bef. Dec 1643, confirmed 15 May 1668) and Stuyvesant (not dated, but confirmed 15 Oct 1667.)⁵

     In some cases the father is only Emanuel Van Angola, and without a mother's name, it could not be determined whose children they are.
