In 1945 he rejoined The Record as city editor, becoming managing editor in 1958, senior managing editor in 1969. He retired in 1976.      Emanuel Swager Van Angola married Phizithiaen Van Angola on 16 February 1642 at New York City (DRC) (Emanuel van Angola, Negro, and Phizithiaen D'Angool, wid. of Leen Laurens.)2,3 Emanuel Swager Van Angola died after 1668.4

     He was manumitted on 25 Feb 1644, one of the original 11. Manuel Gerrit De Reus/Ros aka de Swager received patents from Kieft (bef. Dec 1643, confirmed 15 May 1668) and Stuyvesant (not dated, but confirmed 15 Oct 1667.4
     Emanuel/Manuel Van Angola presents a problem.
     Dickerson has Groot/Big Manuel DeGerrit and Manuel Gerrit De Reus aka Manuel Swager. Both were manumitted on 25 Feb 1644 in the original 11, who petitioned Kieft for freedom.
     Groot Manuel took the blame for the murder of Jan Primero, but was pardoned, when the rope broke. He received patents on 21 Dec 1644 and 19 Oct 1645 (both confirmed 19 Oct 1667)
     Manuel de Swager received patents from Kieft (bef. Dec 1643, confirmed 15 May 1668) and Stuyvesant (not dated, but confirmed 15 Oct 1667.)5
     Emanuel Swager Van Angola listed as such at the bapt. of the first 4 children
     In some cases the father is only Emanuel Van Angola, and without a mother's name, it could not be determined whose children they are.
     Whether any of the children belongs to Emanuel de Angola (x Christina) is also unknown. Name variation: Manuel Gerrit De Reus.4 Name variation: Manuel Swager.4 Name variation: Emanuel Swarger.2
