Wally was raised on a farm in Grimoldshausen. In 1919, when she was 22, during a revolution which followed WWI in Bavaria, she rode her bicycle from Maisach to Furstenfeldbruck. There she lived with the Kneissls (her cousin Johann and his wife Ottilie) and learned cooking at the Metzgerei, from 1919 to 1922? She was known for her meat cookery - roasts, etc.
On 31 Oct 1926, Ottilie Kneissl, wrote the following letter of recommendation "Wally Stegmeier of Grimoldshausen, has uninterruptedly since 1 April 1923 been employed in my house and business. During this time she has been capable and dependable." She was cooking for the Elwanger family in Schrobenhausen when she was introduced to the recent widower, George Klebel, who had 2 young children, and married him 6 weeks later.1 Married name: Klebel.
