     He was from Acquackanonk, Essex County, according to the marriage record.¹ Hartman Vreeland made a will on 3 April 1773. It was proved 16 Oct 1782. He was Hartman D. Vreelant, of Acquackanonk, Essex Co., husbandman. Names wife Leeya; son Peter; son Jacob; son John; daughter Catrine; grandson Teunis Spier. Executors: 3 sons, and friend Hessel Peters.      The older brothers all moved to Acquackanonk, but Michiel remained at Reckpokus, and as his mother sold him the land at Reckpokus where she lived, it is presumed that he continued to live at the homestead.¹⁴ Name variation: Hertman Magielse.

     Hartman Vreeland was born at Gemoenepa, NJ.¹ He married Maritje Gerbrants, daughter of Cornelius Garrabrants, on 20 November 1739 at Jersey City, Hudson County, NJ, (Bergen DRC.)^1,2 Hartman Vreeland died before 13 April 1785.³

     Hartman Vreeland and Hendrick Post were witnesses to the will of Hessel Pietersen of Essex County, dated 6 Oct 1744. The will was proved 7 Apr 1753 and the inventory of the estate, dated 5 Apr 1753, was made by Hartman Vreeland and Johannes Vreeland (Abstract of Wills vol3, page 254).⁴ Hartman Vreeland made a will on 4 November 1776. It was proved 13 Apr 1785. He was Hartman Vreelant, of Acquackanonk, Essex Co. Names wife Marritye; son Micheal; son Cornelus; father Michael Vreeland, dec'd; daughters Jenne, Elizabeth and Beeltye. Executors: my said sons. Witnesses: Cournelos Van Telper, John Oothout, and Hessel Peterse.^4,5,3
     Hartman was named the oldest son in his father's will and received all of his father's realty. This caused much dissention in the family.
Hartman and his wife joined the Bergen Church on confession of their faith 1 Apr 1740. Some time after their marriage they moved to Wesel, along the Passaic River, and established their home on the farm bought from Claes Romeyn by his father.
The Vreeland Homestead is an old stone house that stands near the corner of Twenty-first Ave. and East Forty-second St. in Paterson, NJ. This house was ascribed to Hartman Michielsen Vreeland, but but Mr. Nelson and Louis Beach Vreeland both feel that it was built by Hartman's son, Cornelius H. Vreeland. Avery good picture of the house is given in Nicholas G. Vreeland's book, page 139.
About 1900 the entire second story of of The Homestead , which was of wood, was gutted by fire. The property at that time was owned by a Van Houten. When the second story of the structure was rebuilt its shape and the shape of the roof were changed while the lower potion was kept almost in its original form.
No records have been found to document his active service during the Revolutionary War. He was a patriot as shown by the vertificates given him by the Quartermaster General's Department for the use of his teams. Cerificate 298, dated 7 Nov 1780 for eight days carting with two-horse team for 256.00, due 2 Aug 1780, from Daniel Marsh, Quartermaster at Rahway.⁶ Name variation: Hartman Michielsen Vreeland.¹

     Hartman A Vreeland was born on 4 January 1804 at New Jersey.^3,4 He married Rebecca R.² Hartman A Vreeland died on 13 April 1871.⁵ He was buried in Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Paterson.²

     The 1850 census lists Hartman A Vreeland and Rebecca at Acquackanonck, Passaic County, NJ, with Leah Tuers and James v.W Tuers and their children Mary E. and Vreeland A, Cornelius Corbey (12, b. NJ) and
Catherine Roxxy (23, b. NY.)⁶ The 1870 census lists H. Vreeland and Rebecca at Paterson, Passaic County, NJ, with Eliza Vreeland (22, b. NJ), and Annie Vreeland (1, b. NJ). Hartman is a retired mechanic, and listed as born in Ireland.⁷ Hartman A Vreeland lived in 1871 at Paterson, NJ.⁵ He made a will at Passaic County, NJ. It was probated 10 May 1871 (#14459 C Will 627, O INV 386, A Rel 314, 347, 380, 473.)⁵

     Acc. to Nelson, Hartman had only a son Cornelius; RDC Aquackanonck only has the baptism of Hartman's son Cornelius; marriages not in Acquackanonck.^4,5

     Hartman Enochse Vreeland married Jannitje Van Norstrand on 20 August 1747 at Hackensack, Bergen County, NJ.¹ (license on 8 August 1747.)¹

     On 22 Sep 1767 Hartman witnessed the will of Elias Vreeland of Wesel.¹

     Hartman I Vreeland married Elizabeth Van Duyne, daughter of Jacobus Van Duyne and Hester Jacobus.² Hartman I Vreeland was buried in DRC in Pompton Plains.²

     Hartman Vreeland Jr. was born on 7 December 1826.¹ He married Margaret Cadmus.¹

     The children were all baptized in the First Reformed Church, Bayonne, NJ.¹ Name variation: Hartman Van Horn.¹

     Hartman Klaes Vreeland was born on 10 March 1698 at Gamonepa, NJ.¹ He married Jannetje Jacobusse, daughter of Roeloff Jacobusse and Geertruyd Buys, on 15 September 1733 at Acquackanonck, Passaic County, NJ, (DRC.)^2,3 Hartman Klaes Vreeland died in 1760.

     Hartman Klaes Vreeland lived at Pequannock, NJ.⁴ Hartman received one half of the Hoeck from his grandfather's will and himself died intestate. Hartman sold his one-half of Constable's Hoek 17 Dec 1730 to his uncle Pieter Van Boskerk. About 1735 Hartman became a settler at Jacksonville (Morris County).^1,2

     Hartman N Vreeland was born on 25 October 1762.^2,3 He was baptized on 14 November 1762 at Pompton Plains, NJ, (First Reformed Church.)^2,3 He married Martha Van Riper.¹ Hartman N Vreeland died between 21 February 1823 and May 1823.¹

     Hartman N Vreeland lived at Pequannock, NJ.⁴ He made a will on 21 February 1823 at Morris County, NJ. It was probated 20 May 1823 (Morris County Records Book C, page 87). Mentions his brothers Martin and Abraham, and his father's estate.¹

     Hattie Vreeland was born in 1858 at New Jersey.² She married Edward Mathews in 1877.^3,1

     The 1880 census lists Edward Mathews and Hattie at Pequannock Twp, Morris County, NJ, with one son Harry (2). Edward is 25, farmer; Harriet A is 22, keeps house, all b. NJ.² The 1900 census lists Frederick Matthews and Hattie, with children Harry (22, b. Feb 1878, laborer), William (17, b. Oct 1882, laborer), Emma (15, b. Nov 1884), James (12, b. Feb 1888), Lizzie (9, b. May 1891), Milly (4, b. Aug 1895), Minnie (3, Apr 1897). Frederick is 46, b. May 1854, teamster; Harriet is 41, b. Sep 1858, they were married 23 yrs, had 9 children, 8 living. All are b. NJ.³ The 1910 census lists Edward Mathews and Hattie at Pequannock Twp, NJ, with children Edward, Jr. (29, laborer at a rubbermill), William (27, laborer at a rubbermill), Mildred (14), Minnie (12), Melvin (9), Emma Miller (25, married 5 years), grandsons Earnest (4) and Lloyd (3) Miller. Edward is 54, farmer on rented land; Harriet is 49, they were married 30, had 10 children, 9 living. All are b. NJ.⁴
     In 1932 (at the time of their uncle Jacob's will) four children were living in Riverdale, NJ, and one in Pompton Lakes, NJ. Married name: Mathews.
