     The 1850 census lists William Jose and Christina at Ward 1 at Buffalo, NY, with May Jose (2); Francis Mcgee (     25, b. Ireland),
Margarett Mcgee (23, b. Ireland),
Eliza Ann Mcgee     (2, b. NY), and
Margarett Crane (15, b. Ireland) are living in the same house.¹ The 9 July 1860 census lists William Jose and Elsa M at Dryden, Lapeer County, MI, with Mary Ann Jose, Eliza J. Jose and Emily A. Jose, and Jakob Mattison (20, laborer) (House 1026, Family 950.)³ The 4 August 1870 census lists William Jose and Sara at Bourbois, Gasconade County, MO, with William, Sara, Harriet, Lizzie, John and Emily.⁴ His father was William Jose.

     NOTE: It seems highly unlikely that Elsa is his first wife, as she would have been nine at her marriage. Following is an overview of 1850, 1860, and 1870 census. The age of William is 24 in 1850, 33 in 1860, but 50 in 1870! There are also duplicates among the children with very diferent ages and birthplaces: i.e. William and Emily both born in 1856, but William in Missouri and Emily in Michigan; and Elizabeth Anne and Sara J both born in 1861, but Elizabeth in England and Sara in Missouri.

     Betsey Josselyn was born on 22 July 1796 at Pembroke, MA.¹ She married Calvin Barstow, son of James Barstow and Sarah Levitt, on 7 August 1814 at Pembroke, MA.¹ Betsey Josselyn died on 14 September 1878 at Mattapoisett, MA.¹ She was buried in New Cemetery in Mattapoisett, now Cushing Cemetery, near Mendell's Corner.¹
