Lillie was one of thirteen children. Most all moved west of the Mississippi River. Lillie was a teacher in Chicago, IL from 1927 to 1937. Lillie and her husband lived in Fontanelle, IA, a small town of about 1,000 people. They had a farm not far from town, where they lived for more than 36 years.

McBride.) William Cox Britten died on 11 March 1916 at Bridgeport, CT. He was buried on 7 September 1916 in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Newark.1

At the age of 15 1/2 on 23 June 1864, he enlisted into the army as a private in Company G, 37th Regiment in the New Jersey Volunteer Infantry for 100 days from Newark, NJ. William served as a drummer. He was discharged at Trenton, NJ 1 October 1864. This was Captain William J. Roberts' Company. He also served in the 4th Battery Light Artillery from12 August 1864 to 17 June 1865 as a bugler. This was Captain Charles R.Doane's Company and was finally discharged in Richmond Virginia.
When William applied for his War Pension on 24 October 1910, he listed his occupation as a melter - refiner

William returned to Newark to live and work. Five years after his discharge he married Alice, who died less than a year later. William never married again. He stayed in Newark until 1872, then moved to Providence, RI. He resided in Providence until 1912, when he moved to Bridgeport, CT. He stayed there at 163 Harriet Street until his death in 1916.
