     Ebenezer Drake was born on 19 July 1693 at Piscataway, NJ.¹

     Elijah Drake was born in 1759.¹ He married Abigail Stoddard in 1790.¹ Elijah Drake died in 1848.¹

     Elijah served during the Revolutionary War.¹ Elijah settled in Chemung, NY, later removed to Cayuga County and settled in Royal Oak, MI in 1835.¹

     Elizabeth Drake was born in 1653/54 at New Hampshire.¹ She married Hugh Dunn Sr on 19 December 1670 at Piscataway, NJ.¹

     Acording to 'Early History of New Jersey' by Samuel Smith, John DUNN sailed from Kirkwell, England on the vessel Bonaventure 1633-33, landed in the Massachusetts Bay, and went to Dover, New Hampshire.
     Hugh Dunn, son of John, was included in the Dover Tax List in 1664 (NEHGS register Vol 4, page 36, and also in the New Hampshire Record Vol 1, Apr 1664 #4, pg 146.) He went from Dover to Piscataway, NJ, settled there under the generous terms of the lords Propuetors of the Privince of New Jersey together with John Martin and Charles Gilman. They paid 80 pounds for the land. (See Samuel Smith Early History of NJ) Hugh Dunn married Elizabeth Drake 1670 at Piscataway. She was a daughter of Capt Francis and Mary Drake who were formerly of Portsmouth, NH.
     First Settlers of NJ 1664-1714 (Monette) Gen 974.9 m748 lists Hugh DUNN as one of the original proprietors of the town (Piscataway), and appears to be the ancestors of other DUNNS there. He was probably the Hugh DUNN, who Savage says was of Dover in 1664. The births of nine of his children are recorded at Piscataway, decendents numerour in NJ.
     THE Geneology of the FITZ RANDOLPH FAMILY BY STELLE AND FITZRANDOLPH states that Jeremiah Fitz Rancolph married Ruth DUNN who was born in Piscataway 29 May 1721, a daughter of Hugh (Jr) and Elizabeth (Martin) DUNN.¹ Married name: Dunn.

     Elizabeth (Betty) Drake was from.'t lang Eyl't, liv. at Mannor Fordam acc. to her marriage certificate.³ She was baptized on 15 January 1698/99 at Brooklyn (DRC) (sponsors: Willem Hiltin and Johana Kaer; father Jeseyas Drets, mother Aeltje.)^4,5 She married Ryer Michielsze, son of Reyer Michielsen and Jacomyntie Tibout, on 4 February 1725 at New York City (DRC.)^6,3,7,8 (Banns on 16 January 1725. He was Ryer Michielsze, jm from Mannor V. Fordam; she Elisabeth Dreak, jd from.'t lang Eyl't, liv. at Mannor Fordam.)³

     Francis DRAKE came to Portsmouth, NH in April 1640. He was a man of conviction and made a big name for himself. He took an active role in the community. The towns of Portsmouth (Strawberry Bank), Dover, Exeter and Hampton were under ther jurisdiction Norfork o, Mass. They remained that way until they were made a Royal Province in 1679 - between 1641 and 1679, this area was governed by Mass. Some felt that Mass was disinterested in them, including Francis Drake. In April 1646, Francis joined 21 others in an agreement to lay out land. This involvement in real estate was to force him to leave 20 years later. In 1654-55 he received a large tract of land near Portsmouth which was adjacent to Nathanial Drake - a possible brother to Francis and a proven son of Robert Drake. In Jan 1660, he and Nathanial participated in the distribution of public lands near Portsmouth. By now, he and Nathanial were influential in the community. They served together as grand jurors between 1660-1. They were elected surveyor of highways. This showed economic and political power as well as higher education not enjoyed by many at that time. in 1665 he signed a petition to 'His Majesty's Commission for the Affairs of New England and America'. They alledged misgovernment. When nothing happened, a second petition went to the king himself. In addition to being involved in land disputed, Francis was a Baptist. Religious disturbances were a part of the history of the region, and piled on top of the land disputed and petitions for redress, was religious persecution. Apparantly, he became estranged from the Drake families in the area as well as other close friends. In New Jersey, Gov. Carteret knew of the troubles and in 1666 offered liberal concessions to those seeking escape from prosecution. On condition of land development, large tracts of land were made available.
Francis with others from the Piscataqua area in New Hampshire, and groups from Cape Cod and Long Island established thowns of Piscataway and Woodbridge, in Middlesex Co in 1666. No doubt they felt a loss for their homes of 25 years, so they incorporated names from New Hampshire. With Francis' arrival in NJ he was free to worship as a baptist, and the Drake family had a home for the next 200 years.
Francis was just as active in New Jersey as he had been in nH. In addition to being a land owner, he conducted a tavern (inn). He was commissioned a captian in the militia (for 3 years), was constable, justice of the peace, and in 1682, the county judge.

Wife Mary, probably nee Walker; sons, Capt George Drake; Rev John Drake, b 1653-d.1741; and the only known daughter, Elizabeth, married Hugh DUNN< Sr., one of the original colonists of Piscataway Township on 19 Dec 1670.³ Name variation: Captain Francis Drake.³

     George Drake was born in 1649/50 at Portsmouth, Rockingham County, NH.¹ He married Mary Oliver on 13 November 1677.¹ George Drake died on 8 November 1710 at Piscataway, NJ.¹

     George N Drake was born on 11 January 1829. He married Sarah Jane Hull on 29 July 1855. George N Drake died on 24 April 1863.

     George was a Civil War Soldier for the G.A.R. and was only 34 when he died. There was a picture taken of him in uniform with his sister, Mary Elizabeth. That picture is now in the possession of Patricia Allan (Vreeland) Boyle.

     Harriet (Hattie) M. Drake was born on 1 January 1827. She married Niles L Carpenter on 4 December 1848. Harriet (Hattie) M. Drake died on 21 June 1891.

     First Fam. of America (and also Veldran and Bogardus Files) have Jan, son of Josias Drake, married to Magdalena, daughter of Jacobus Brouwer and Anna Bogart. Richardson Chapter and state historian for 3 years. She collected war records of Oakland Co. and was awarded the Good Citizenship Pin of Oakland Co. in 1916.¹ Married name: Avery.

     Margaret Morgan Drake was born on 17 August 1847.¹ She married Sylvanus D Budd.¹ Margaret Morgan Drake died on 4 March 1908.¹

     Mary Elizabeth Drake was born on 30 June 1836 at Honesdale, Wayne County, PA. She married George Phillips Hawley, son of Joel Edwin Hawley and Miranda Orcelia Phillips, on 20 December 1854 at Scranton, Luzerne County, PA, (1st Presbyterian Church) (by N.G. Parke, a substitute minister for the Church's Pastor. The regular minister was out of town at the time.) Mary Elizabeth Drake died on 13 December 1902 at Newark, Essex County, NJ. She was buried on 17 December 1902 in Evergreen Cemetery in Hillside, along with her husband, three of her children, her mother-in-law and her parents.

     They lived in New Jersey for 40 years before her death at the age of 66 at their home. At one point they lived in the Roseville section of Newark at 51 Third Street.
     Mary Elizabeth Drake was born in Honesville, NY and married in Scranton, PA. At the time of her marriage, her father had already tragically died in a drowning accident. The physician in attendance at Mary's death was M. Royal Whitenack, husband of her daughter, Fida Clemetina Hawley. Married name: Hawley.
