The 1850 census lists David Shorey at Burlington, ME, with his children Maria, Hannah, Thomas, Robert, Mary, Malinda and Emily (Maria (23), Hannah (20), Thomas (17), Robert L. (12), Mary E. (10), Malonda (14), Emily (7.)1,5) David Shorey and Hannah had two more children: Luthen and Mary.3 The 1860 census lists David Shorey and Hannah W at Burlington, Penobscot County, ME, with their children Charles, Isaac, Rachel and Moses. A Nathaniel Treadwell (13, b. Maine), and Robert Shorey (21, b. Maine) are also listed. Thomas Shorey, with wife Sarah and three children lived next door.6 The children were all born in Burlington, ME.1 He was elected to become a visible member of the Congregational Church at Passadumkeag 12 July 1827. He was suspended without delay on 23 July 1834.3 David Shorey served as a private in the Aroostook War 20 Feb 1839 - 24 Apr 1839 under Capt Maxim of Bangor. In this war, the boundary between Mew Brunswick and Maine was disputed.3

John Short was born on 4 May 1827 at Norham, Northumberland, England.1 He married Isabella Morton, daughter of James Morton and Jane Winter, on 25 November 1853 at Norham.2,3,1 John Short died on 20 November 1900 at Berwick On Tweed, Northumberland, England.4 He was buried on 23 November 1900 in Berwick Cemetery in Berwick On Tweed.1

There was a note on his death notice which states: 'Grandfather, born Shoreswood Norham & Islandshire 1827. Youngest son of George Short (born 1791) died 18 Sept 1875, and Margaret Short born 1791, died 26 Jan 1877 age 86. Date of birth in grave stone: 4 May 1827.

Notes from Kirk Session and Deacons Records Free Church CH3 - 1236 Eyemouth, Berwickshire 1826-1881: Eyemouth 28 May 1865, John Short and wife admitted to the church; tokens of admission to Lord's supper given to John Short and wife 1 Jul 1865; 17 Sep 1870 John Short was nominated for Elder; proclaimed Elder 14 Oct 1870 (have copy);was active on elder's list from 3 nov 1870-1878; elected to represent the ongregation at the Presbytery of Churnside and Teriotdale 22 Apr 1877 for 6 months; have signature on document dated 8 Aug 1876; on 12 Nov 1878, the Deacon's court deliberated whether to raise the rent of Misses Short(?) and Mr. Sibbolds, it was decided Mr. Short's rent be raised to L 16/year, Sibbolds to remain the same; 3 Dec 1878 the Court requested to know if Mr Short desired to remain in house; 4 Mar 1879,the court requested Misses Shoer and Spey to audit treasurer acct for period ending 15 May 1879; on 11 Mar 1879 it was announced that Mr Short had given notice of leaving here, and wished to give up the occupancy of his house at WhitSunday first. The Court agreed to take the house off Mr. Short's hands and relet it at L 18/year. A long letter was composed 4 July 1879 by members of the court to John Short in Berwick to express their regret that due to his change in residency their ties would be dissolved. They noted a pleasant bond during the whole 8 years. The letter has been copied.
