Married in Court
Wanted to get Joined in a Hurry -The Judge Equal to the Occasion

On Wednesday, Justice Wm. V. O'Connell performed quite a novel marriage in Jersey City. The groom was Dominick Ratto, a brakeman on the Northern Railroad at North Vale, Harrington township, Bergen County, who had been married twice previously, and has two living children by his second wife. The bride was a buxom country widow from the same place, with three living children. Their appearance at the door of the court room indicated their desire, and they looked as though they were fresh from the country. They has innumerable bundles with them. The ceremony was conducted in the presence of John Ohle and Edward Connolly.1
Dominick Ratto was a gardener.3 The 1900 census lists Dominick Ratto and Elizabeth at Old Tappan at Harrington Township, Bergen County, NJ, with their children Martha Satert and August Ratto (sic!), his children Tony and Magie, and their children Henry, Joseph, William, Rosa and Emma.2 The 1905 census lists Dominick Ratto and Elizabeth at North Vale at Harrington Township, Bergen County, NJ, with the children Henry J, Joseph A, William, Rosie E and Emma; August Sagget and Martha Sagget; and Joseph Bradato (b. Italy Apr 1885.)3 Name variation: Michel Ratto.2
