They were married 54 yrs, she had 11 children, 4 living.
On their other side is an Anthony May (b. Apr 1855, b. NJ, farmer) with wife Ada (b. Apr 1869, NY). They were married 13 years; she had three children, two living: Edith (b. They are on the same page as John W May and Jacob May.² The 1860 census lists Richard May and Jane at Ramapo Twp, NY, with Peter (12) and Susanna (9). Richard is 38, a laborer, all b. NY; Jane is 22, b. NJ.⁵

     Rose May was born on 1 April 1899 at New York City.¹ She married Charles E Maehrlein, son of Henry Maehrlein and Lillie Dobler, on 7 May 1919.¹ Rose May died on 11 April 1980 at New Jersey.¹

     Susannah May was born circa 1781.¹ She married Garret Litcholt.¹ Susannah May died on 2 September 1851.¹ She was buried in Ramapo DRC (Island Church) Cemetery in Mahwah.^1,2

     Susannah May made a will on 13 August 1851. She mentions granddaughters Mary, daughter of Jacob May; Jane, daughter of Anthony M. Litcholt; and Susannah, daughter of William Ways. She appoints Anthony M. Litcholt as executor. Final account 12 Apr 1852.^3,4
     The names of the daughters in Garret's will are in a very different order than in the Woodruff file; BC-Families Licholt File lists them in the order of the will (without any dates, except for John, Jane, and Susanna, but has an extra daughter Pam. The Susanna from the Woodruff file is not the same as the Susanna from the BC-Families. Married name: Litcholt.

     Walter W May was born on 23 October 1824 at New York.^1,2 He married Susanna Litcholt on 7 September 1844 at Saddle River, NJ, (Zion Lutheran Church.)^3,4 Walter W May died on 24 November 1891.¹ He and Susanna Litcholt were buried in Airmont Lutheran Cemetery in Suffern.⁵

     Walter W May and Susanna had at least six more children (see 1870 census); two of them married: Anthony m. Ada, and William m. NJ: John (19), Harvey (17), Antony (15), Martin (13), William (11), Daniel (9), and George W (3). Walter is 45, b. NY, farmer; Susanna is 45, b. NJ.² The 1880 census lists Walter W May and Susanna at Ramapo Twp, NY, with four children John (29, b. NY, crippled), Daniel (19, b. NJ, works on farm, George (13, b. NJ), and William (21, b. NJ, works in iron foundry) and daughter-in-law Adaline (20b. NJ). They were indexed as Way on FamilySearch.^8,9,4

     William (28) and Mary (20) are listed in the 1850 census, with two children: James (4) and Eliza (1). BC-Families has that as this William C May, but ages and children are rather different. James is 4 in 1850, and David is 14 in 1860, he is poss. David James.^7,8 The 1860 census lists William May and Mary Jane at Ramapo Twp, Rockland County, NY, with David (14), Sarah J (8), Levi (4), and John H (2). William C and Mary J are both 34, all are b. NY.⁹ The 1870 census lists William May and Mary Jane at Ramapo Twp, NY, with Sarah J (19), Levi (14), John H (12), Manilla (7mo), and William Carson (80) William C is 44, Mary J is 43, all are b. NY.¹⁰ The 1880 census lists William May and Mary Jane at Ramapo Twp, NY, with son John H (22), granddaughter Martha Van Saun (4), and his mother Annie May (79, b. NJ.) William C is 53, Mary J is 54, all, except Annie May, are b. NY.²

     He might have been living in Cimarron County, OK in 1910 and 1920; the correspondent is in possession of a portrait of William, taken 1910-1920; as well as a postcard mentioning him.²

An eight-year old Anna is listed in the census with William C May, she is the daughter of John W. May, but her birthdate is listed as 31 Oct 1861 (unknown source) . Familysearch has a male child, b. 13 Jul 1862, parents also Charles W May and Elizabeth.^2,1
     In 1870 Elizabeth A. May (30, b. NJ, domestic servant) and William May (7, b. NJ) are living with Margaret Ramsey (63, b. NJ). They are next door to David and Rachel Ramsey, with Peter (15), and his mother Elizabeth (Christie; 86.)^3,4

     William C May was born circa 1806 (44 in 1850.)² He married Elizabeth Ackerman on 14 April 1827 at West New Hempstead, NY, (Kakiat DRC) (William May of New York and Elizabeth Ackerman of Ramapo.)^3,4,5 William C May died on 7 May 1871 aged 67.7.5.⁶ He and Elizabeth Ackerman were buried in Union Cemetery in Ramsey.⁷

     The 1850 census lists William C May and Elizabeth at Ho-Ho-Kus Township, NJ, with John (19, carpenter), Charles (15, farmer), and Jane (10). William is 44, b. NY, farmer; Elizabeth is 44, b. NJ; the children are all b. NJ.⁸ The 1860 census lists William C May and Elizabeth at Ho-Ho-Kus Township, NJ, William is 58, b. NJ; Elizabeth is 54, b. NJ. They are next door to their sons John W May and Charles W May.⁹ William C May made a will on 7 November 1866. It was proved 22 May 1871. He was William C. May of Hohokus. Names wife Elizabeth; son John W; daughter Elizabeth Jane, wife of Garet G. Ramsey; and grandson William, son of dec'd son Charles.¹⁰ The 1870 census lists William C May, with John W (40, b. NY, farmer); Hannah (37, b. NJ); and Elizabeth (16), Clara (10), and Anna (8), all b. NJ. William is 67, farmer, b. NY.¹¹

     William Valentine May was born on 7 March 1836.¹ He was baptized on 18 February 1837 at Saddle River, NJ, (Zion Lutheran Church.)² He married Mary Wanamaker on 1 October 1870 at Suffern, NY, (Airmont Lutheran Church.)^1,3 William Valentine May died on 18 August 1886 at Suffern, NY, (cert. 20660.)^1,4 He was buried in Airmont Lutheran Cemetery in Suffern.¹

     The 1860 census lists William Valentine May at Warwick, Orange County, NY, with wife Mary (23), John (2), and Mary (3). John is 24, a miner; all are b. NY.⁵
     The 1870 census has William in his father's household, and lists three children: John (13), Mary E (12), and Hannah (9). Konight has them as possible children of John, but does specify that they are not listed in John's will.
In 1875 John (18) and Mary (16) are listed as John's grandchildren, and Hannah (14) is listed as daughter of William and Mary M.
In 1860 William and Mary seem to be in Warwick with John (2) and Mary (3); this has to be a different Mary, as Mary Matilda still has a child with Orville in 1861. It seems likely that William was married before. The 1865 census would be helpful.^6,7,5 The 1875 census lists William Valentine May and Mary M at Ramapo Twp, Rockland County, NY, with daughters Hannah (14) and Annie (1), and stepson Isaac Wanamaker (18, b.NY). William is 39, b. NY, blacksmith; Mary is 38, b. NJ. They are next door to John W May and Susanna Wanamaker.⁷ The 1880 census lists William Valentine May and Mary M at Paterson City, Passaic County, NJ, with stepson Isaac Wanamaker (23, b. NY, boilermaker), and two daughters: Annie (8, b. NY) and Sarah (4, b. NY, listed as son and F.)⁸

     Bridget Mayen was born in July 1858 at Port Ewen, NY.¹ She married Terence Oulton, son of Capt. Andrew Oulton and Mary, in January 1880 at Port Ewen, NY.¹
