Charles E is born in New York, Harry, William, and Maria in Brooklyn. They are also enumerated in Brooklyn (as Rivers.)3 The 1870 census listed John D Phillips in Charles A and Maria H Phillips's household at Clarkstown, NY.4

Charles and Maria are listed as born in Orange County, Charles Jr. as born in New York, and all the rest of the children as born in Kings County.7 The 1880 census lists Charles R Howell and Maria H at ED 48 at New City, Rockland County, NY, with their children Charles A, Harvey F, William P, Maria A, Irene, Eugene M, Frank A and Fredrick E.8 The 1892 census lists Charles A Rivers and Mary at Ward 22, ED 21 at Brooklyn, Kings County, NY, with their children Chas., Harry, William, Mary, Irene, Eugene, Frank O and Frederick C, with the last name Rivers.9 Name variation: Maria W Charles (The correspondence in the file Howell file has her name as Maria W Charles, but the census seems to indicate Phillips.)3 Married name: Maria Howell.3,2 Name variation: Maria H Howell.8 Name variation: Mary Rivers.5

Miranda was born in the little town of Marcellus, NY and taken to Ithaca NY, when she was 6 months old, by her father and mother. Her father, Dr George W. Phillips practiced medicine in Ithaca many years before moving to St. Louis, MO.
Miranda first married Dr. Joel Edwin Hawley and had all of her children by him. Later, after he died, she married Albert Atkins. Miranda and Albert were married by the Rev. Dr. William Wisner at the 1st Presbyterian Church, Ithaca, NY. This was a second marriage for both. Albert already had a son Thomas, by his first marriage. They lived on the Atkins Farm, 'Long Hill', Middletown, CT. The farm house was later torn down and a new one was built by Thomas Atkins. Miranda is buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Hillside, NJ, in the Hawley-Drake lots.1 Note: The spelling of Miranda Orcelia differs from the HR. The way it is spelled here is the way it is continually spelled in all notes of the Hawley Family. Married name: Hawley. Married name: Atkins.

Sarah Phillips was born on 26 February 1797.1,2 She married Robert Knapp, son of Libbeus Knapp and Rachel Storms, circa 1815 at Haverstraw, NY, (at the residence of Rev. Robert Burns.)4,5 Sarah Phillips died on 23 February 1879.1,2 She was buried in Phillips-Knapp Family Burial Ground in Thiells.6

Sarah Phillips was born on 1 February 1856 at Stony Point, NY.1 She married Edward Abrams on 7 April 1872.1 Sarah Phillips died on 30 March 1885.1

Hiram Phillips filed a complaint for partition of the Homestead Farm of his parents, after the death of his brother Nelson, who died unmarried in Feb 1889. Hiram is entitled to 1/5 interest. Four other siblings must have left offspring by that time

3. Catherine's six surviving children Nelson March, George March, Charlotte Babcock, Catherine King, Caroline Holt and Elmira Gurnee, and Hannah Thompson, received 1/35th. It is unclear, who Hannah Thompson is.3 Married name: Abrams.
