NJ, farmer; Lavinia is 32, b. NJ. They are next door to Jacob Dater.3 The 1860 census lists John Y Dater and Lavinia at Ho-Ho-Kus Township, Bergen County, NJ, with William Dater (17), (on the next page, but same house and family) George Ryerson and Mary Ryerson (23 and 21, both b. NJ); and Mary Doremus (widow, 59) and a number of others with no obvious relationship are enumerated at the same address.4 John Young Dater was a merchant.4
     He was a New Jersey Assemblyman and State Senator, and was largely responsible for the development of Ramsey's Station on the Erie Railroad as a thriving village.1
John Young Dater's obituary appeared on 7 June 1894 in the Hackensack Republican (pg. 3, col. 2.)5 Name variation: John Y Dater.4,6

     He registered for the WWI draft in Ridgefield Park, NJ on 5 Jun 1917. He was born 3 Jul 1892 in NYC; he was employed as a painter with a George Hammarlund. His wife applied for a headstone in 1941.2,5
     The 1920 census lists him in the household of his parents Henry and Mary Dauer at 33 6th Street, Ridgefield Park; in 1940 he is living at 3 7th Street, Ridgefield Park with his wife Jennie, and a nephew James McNiece. His parents are also buried in NY Cemetery (Maple Grove).7,4,8,9

     Acc. to the Rosenkrans File, Humphrey probably came to Kingston about 1700. He sold his interest in the sloop 'Fortune of Ulster.'
     However, he married in Kingston, and all his children are bp. there, so it seems unlikely, he arrived c 1700. BC-Families Davenport File has his origins in Devonshire, England; and he moved c. 1714 to Morris County, NJ.1,4,8
