James Wood was a mason.3 The 1841 census lists James Wood and Jean at Rhynie/Essie, with their children Helen, Margaret and David. He is 55, a mason; Jean is 50, Helen is 15 and Margaret is listed as 4 (Typo of submitter?). David is 30, and was listed on the next page.8 The 1851 census lists James Wood and Jean at Montrose, Forfarshire, Scotland, with their children James and Ann. Son James was age 40 b in Forfar, Lonforgen. Anne Kemlo (38), wife of Thomas Kemlo of Northeast Rd also was listed. She was born in Perthshire, Longforgans. Their children were born in St. Cyrus and Montrose.9
A map of the Scottish coast shows Benholm, Bervie and St Cyrus to be close. However, Rhynie is a bit inland. Yet Helen Paterson Wood's death certificate stated she was born at Saint Cyrus, and her marriage listed her as being in Rhynie. So evidently, the family moved.3
