Peter Van Gaasbeek was in 1780 a prominent merchant in Kingston. He was a member of the 3rd US Congress (1793-1795).
He was a captain in the Revoltionary Army, stationed at Livingston Manor, who was promoted to Major.¹ Sarah Van Gaasbeek was the last of her branch of the family. She lived in the 'Senate House' that she left in her will to Charles R Westbrook, son of the Rev. Cornelius D Westbrook and brother of Judge T R Westbrook.¹ Name variation: Major Peter Van Gaasbeek.¹
