Sara was born to James Chandler and Harriet Pritchard (there is no proof of a marriage). James remarried to Margeret Hardgrove and Sara was raised by them. Harriet either gave up the child to the birthfather or died in childbirth. When Sara was 16, she married David Wesley Bataille. They had 2 children, Walter and Martha. She separated from David (there is no proof of divorce) and married Lewis Morgan Sandford (there is no proof of marriage) and had two more children, James and Mildred. Sara and Lewis raised Martha, James, Mildred and Lewis's son Lewis from a first marriage (Walter was raised by Sara's parents Margeret and James Chandler). Lewis died in 1915 of Tuberculosis leaving Sara to raise three children alone. Sara moved in with her daughter Martha and lived with her until she died in 1955.1
Sara left a list of births in her belongings when she died. This lists all her grand children. It was dated June 1941. All The Bataille's are Walter Bataille's children, the Elseys are Mildred Sandford's children, and the Hills are Martha's children.
