     He took the oath of allegiance in Sep 1687. He had been in the country 39 years.11
     Possibly Jan Cornelisse and Ybetje had a son Jan, who married Susanna (he might be the Jan Janse Buys, who is a sponsor at the baptism of Jannetje Appelby in Brooklyn); also Cornelis, son of Jan Buys, is baptised on Pinksterdag 1677 in Brooklyn, no mother or witnesses listed
     A note on the FGS questioned whether Jacob Jansen was the son of Jan Cornelisse Buys and his first or his second wife. Considering his father is a witness at his marriage, I would assume he is less than 30 yrs old, but that still makes either wife (including the third one) a possiblity; and either wife was still young enough to be the mother (Ybetje <30, Femmetje <40; Willemtje had two more children after that). Most sources have him as son of Femmetje; as he has a daughter Femmetje, I am inclined to agree.4,12,13
     While Jan Cornelisse Buys was also called Damen, he is not the same as Jan Cornelis Damen, who married Fytie Martens. They are contemporaries, but the first seems to have used mostly Buys, the second used exclusively Damen; it is unclear who Jan Cornelis Damen's father is; Jan Cornelisse Buys's mother had two brothers Cornelis.
     NYG&B has a note with the deed, that Jan came from Bunnik; and lists 13 children.14 Name variation: Jan Cornelis Buys.10 Name variation: Jan Damen (He was adopted by his uncle Jan Janse Damen.)4,15
