William is 20-60, native born; Mathilda is >60, native born.4 The 1900 census lists William Slack at Ho-Ho-Kus Township, NJ, with his daugher Katie (35, b. Aug 1864, NY, father b. NY, mother b. NJ), and a boarder Henry Stienbracker (36, b. May 1864, NY, parents b. Germany, tin smith). William was 75, b. Aug 1824, b. NY, widowed, parents b. England, tin smith.)2 The 1905 census lists William Slack at Ho-Ho-Kus Township, NJ, with Katie (42, b. Nov 1862, NJ, parents b. NJ), and a boarder Henry Steinbecker (42, Dec 1862, b. NY, parents b. Germany, plumber). William was 81, b. Aug 1823, widowed, b. Canada, parents b. Canada, merchant.6 The 1910 census lists William Slack at Ramsey Borough, NJ, with his daugher Katherine (41, b. NJ, father b. Canada, mother unknown), and a boarder Henry Steinbrecker (45, b. NY, parents b. Germany, foreman in a stove store). William was 86, b. Canada, widowed, parents b. Canada, proprietot of a hardware store. He had been living in the US since 1850 and was naturalized.7 The 1915 census lists William Slack at Ramsey Borough, Bergen County, NJ, with his daugher Katie (63, b. Nov 1851, NY, father b. Canada, mother b. NJ), and a boarder Henry Steinbrecker (51, b. Dec 1863, NY, parents b. Germany, plumber). William was 91, b. Aug 1823, b. Canada, widowed, parents b. Canada, retired. He had been living in the US for 70 years and was naturalized.8 The obituary (no paper, no date) states he was born in Ulster County of Canadian parents, however in the census it varies between New York, Canada, and England. His age is rather consistent Aug 1823 or 1824. Kate's age varies greatly (42 in 1905, 41 in 1910, 63 in 1915), but she was born mostly in NJ.1
