George Johann Ritter was born on 8 October 1873 at Echlishausen, Bavaria, Germany.1,2,3 He married Elizabeth (Lil) Federlichner, daughter of Charles Federlichner and Elizabeth Laudt, on 7 June 1896 at Hoboken, NJ, (Deutsche Evangelische Kirche.)2 George Johann Ritter died on 2 March 1938 at Park Ridge, NJ.

George Johann Ritter attended at the Normal School, Bavaria, Germany. He was a member of the Episcopal Church. His parents were John (Johann) George Ritter and Crescentia Singer.
The only member of his family to immigrate to America in New York on 8 May 1890, George Ritter rose to be an enterprising and prominent man in his local community. By the late 1920's he was best know for the Regent Theater that he owned in Bogota, but he worked very hard in different professions to gain that success. One of five children, his father was a farmer and cobbler, and his older brother, John, became so well known as an editor that members of the royal family attended his funeral. He was a public school graduate, and attended three additional years of normal school, becoming teacher, which he did not enjoy. His first few months in New York were extremely difficult, and he worked at whatever odd jobs he could find as a daily laborer. He found his way to Westwood, NJ where Charles Hoffman apprenticed him as a barber for a short stint, and he went on to work as a barber in Perth Amboy, Hudson, New York, and again back in Westwood. He opened his own barber shop in Park Ridge in 1893, and went on to run the business for another 18 years. Offered a desirable position at Mittag & Vogler, the Park Ridge based manufacturer of carbon papers, pencils, and other supplies, he sold his barber business and looked for other investment opportunities. He stayed with the plant until 1915 when he bought the Casino in Westwood, a small theater located on the corner of Broadway and Irvington Street. He soon thereafter sold out his interest to a larger group who owned the Westwood Theater. In 1921 he purchased the Regent Theater on the corner of Fort Lee Road and Leonia Avenue from Charles F. Preston. The theater quickly became know for its first class accommodations, showing only the best of films. George also was well suited to entertainment in other ways, being an accomplished musician of some considerable ability, playing the violin, piano, and slide tromboon along with having been at different times leader and instructor of orchestras, military bands, and singing societies.
George took the deepest interest in his adopted country, and In 1894 George Was elected to the first Park Ridge Board of Education, where he served alongside Theodore F. Granger. He became an American citizen in 1896. He served as Park Ridge Town Clerk in its early years, and also as Tax Collector. He was a lifelong member of the Park Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, serving alongside George F. Granger, who was the Chief in the early 1920's. In fraternal organizations he served as chief ranger, Court Park Ridge Ancient Order of Foresters; and served as regent, secretary, and representative to the Grand Council of the Royal Arcanum. He served as a member and representative to the Grand Council of Improved Order of Red Men for seven years.
