They have 9 living children.1 The 1920 census lists Johanna Halma at 14 North 8th Street at Hawthorne Borough, Passaic County, NJ, with four children: Lena (26), Jennie (23), John (21) and Raymond (18), all born in NJ.4

     Rense Halma was born on 2 July 1853 at Ferwerderadeel, Friesland, The Netherlands.1,2,3 He married Johanna Halma in 1883.2 Rense Halma died on 22 November 1917 at Passaic County, NJ.1

     Rense Halma immigrated on 11 October 1881 on the Amsterdam, from Rotterdam, arriving 11 Oct 1881 in New York.4 The 1900 census lists Rense Halma and Johanna at 74 East 22nd Street (3rd Ward) at Paterson City, Passaic County, NJ, with eight children: Alsie (Apr 1883), Lizzie (Aug 1884), Cornelius (Apr 1886), Matthias (Jul 1888), Alex (Apr 1891), Lena (Sep 1893), Jennie (Sep 1896), and John (Jan 1899.)5 Rense Halma was a dry goods peddler in 1900, and a silk winder in 1910.5,2 The 1910 census lists Rense Halma and Johanna at North 8th Street (#635) at Hawthorne Borough, Passaic County, NJ, with six children: Cornelius (23), Alex (19), Lena (16), Jennie (14), John (10) and Raymond (9), all born in NJ. They have 9 living children.2 Rense Halma had nine children, acc. to the obit. Only Cornelius shows up on his own in the 1920 census (32, Prospect Park, but he should be 34!) A Cornelius (34) is in Muskegon, MI. Matthias (31) is in Detroit, MI. Alex is a boy in the census, but seems to be a girl in the obit.
Rense Halma's obituary appeared on 7 December 1917 in the Het Oosten (pg. 4.)1 His parents were Kornelis Renzes Halma and Wytske Eelkes Terpstra.3
